Greetings to all foodies,
Since our kids were home on Valentine's Day we decided to go out for lunch and celebrate today.
It was 12:05 as we walked through the doors and waited to be seated per the signage. Our waitress greeted us with a smile and informed us that we could choose any table to our liking. The dining area was clean, tidy, well-lit and spacious. There was just one family of three seated in a booth. We settled on a table by the window to enjoy the warm sun. The furnishing and tableware were of good quality and order.
The dining area was cold, for reference the temperature outside was -7C.
My wife ordered Chicken 65, Mutton Biriyani and I got Parotta X2 and Malabar Fish curry. Our waitress confirmed that she would get the Chicken 65 to start and ask the kitchen if they had fish for the curry I wanted ( I should have seen this as a sign and canceled the curry). She came back and confirmed that they did and my curry was getting cooked..
Chicken 65 (7X chunks of boneless chicken) was served with slivered onions, a slice of carrot, cucumber and half a slice of lemon. Apart from the color and temperature it lacked aroma, taste and texture. The chicken wasn't crispy but overcooked and stringy.
Mutton Biriyani tasted like it was reheated, the pieces of meat were tough and dry, rice was cooked properly but the preferable grain was not used. The color and temperature were moderate but It lacked flavor, texture and aroma. Overall it tasted like boiled rice mixed with a bit of spices and meat.
I got two pieces of Parotta and they were fantastic in every aspect. They looked like huge golden-brown sunflowers. With a mix of crispy, flaky, fluffy and stringy textures. These are some of the best I've tasted in a while, full of aroma and flavor that reminded me of my home town Madurai in Tamil Nadu.
MALABAR FISH CURRY SHOULD BE RENAMED FISH COOKED IN BUTTER CHICKEN CURRY. the moment I laid my eyes on it I knew this one was going to be a disappointment. I took a piece of the Parotta, grabbed some fish with the curry, and put it in my mouth only to be overwhelmed by the flavors of Butter chicken, every fiber of my being was overwhelmed with resentment over this blasphemy. It ruined the nostalgia and epiphany I was having with the Parotta. Either this dish should not be on the menu or the person who cooked it should not be in the kitchen, I would add he/she has no place trying to cook anything from Tamil Nadu or Kerala.
During our stay, the dining area was empty except for a group of three and ourselves.
Our waitress was a hospitable and courteous young lady who checked on us twice and did her best.
The hand sink was clean and adequately stocked.
It is a shame to mislead customers using "Chettinad" in your name. The flavors of Chettinad are a far cry from what was served to us.
I would humbly request the management to prioritize quality over quantity. The please reduced portion size resulting in reduced price and an increase in variety and affordability.
There is no need for a menu the size of a dictionary. Serving a handful of authentic Chettinad Flavors will attract more customers.
We paid $74.52 including HST and I tipped $5. I wouldn't value the food even at half the price we paid.
I would like to thank everyone who invested their time to read this review.

Read moreI've visited Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant in Brampton a few times, and my experience has been mixed. Here's a breakdown:
Taste and Food Quality: Inconsistency in Taste: The taste of the dishes is not consistent. Sometimes it's great, other times it falls short. Biryani: I don't recommend their biryanis. They haven't been impressive. Dosa Options: Non-Indians and North Indians might prefer the dosa options, which are generally good. Tandoori Chicken: The tandoori chicken is usually fresh and well-prepared. Parotta: The parotta can be hit or miss, with some instances of it not being fresh.
Cleanliness and Maintenance: Washrooms: The cleanliness of the washrooms needs improvement. One tap in the hand wash area has been non-functional for over two years. Hand Wash Area: The paper towel availability in the hand wash area is not consistently monitored. Plates and Glasses: The plates and stainless steel glasses are often not tidy.
Service: Server Dennis: I have to highlight the excellent service provided by a server named Dennis. He is very welcoming and regularly checks on guests to ensure everything is alright. Dennis explains the dishes well, especially for those unfamiliar with Indian cuisine, and provides helpful suggestions. Despite handling multiple tables at once, he maintains a perfect smile and professional demeanor.
In conclusion, while the food quality and cleanliness need improvement, the service, particularly from Dennis, is commendable. If you're planning to visit, stick to the dosa and tandoori options, and you might have a...
