We visited this place on Wednesday, June 25, and unfortunately had one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve ever encountered.
We placed our order: two appetizers, two mains, and a beer. A few minutes later, our server, Kennyah returned and told us that the manager had asked her to inform us that “if we didn’t order another drink, we wouldn’t be served”.
This completely caught us off guard. We were told it was “store policy” that a drink must be purchased to qualify for the appetizer promotion. We had no problem following a policy, but we weren’t told this when ordering, and we’d visited this same location many times without this being enforced.
What made the situation worse was the way the message was delivered — abrupt, unwelcoming, and completely out of place. It was also clear that the server was uncomfortable delivering it. She even offered to pay for the drink herself and seemed reluctant to involve the manager, suggesting internal tension among staff. Her discomfort only added to our own.
We agreed to order a Diet Coke, not because we wanted it, but simply to avoid further conflict. Still, the experience had already shifted into something uncomfortable and us wanting to not eat our food and just leave.
When we eventually spoke with Rudy, he pointed out a line at the bottom of the menu stating: “½ Price Appetizers after 9PM are dine-in only. Drink purchase required.”
We explained we simply hadn’t seen it — the text is small, easy to miss, and wasn’t mentioned when we ordered and the issue was not buying a drink, but how it was assumed that we didn’t want to buy a drink as per the policy and based on that how aggressively the message was conveyed to us. His response: “If you didn’t read it, that’s on you”. This came across as dismissive and lacked basic customer empathy.
We were not looking for anything free. We told Rudy we were willing to pay for everything, but due to how the situation was handled, we just wanted takeout boxes and to leave. Rudy apologized on his behalf and Kennyah’s and offered to cover the drinks for us, but at that point it didn’t feel genuine.
Here’s the problem: • The policy is barely noticeable, printed in small font at the bottom. • It says “drink purchase required”, not “drink(s)” and we had ordered a beer already and when we mentioned this, Rudy insisted that since we ordered two appetizers, we needed to order two drinks, which directly contradicts what’s written. • No one informed us of this at the time of ordering, nor is there clear signage or verbal disclosure.
To make matters worse, as we waited for our food to be packed, our server shared that Rudy had told her to “just kick them out” if we didn’t order another drink — and that she had tried to relay the message more politely. That was truly disheartening.
We left quietly, having paid for everything — including the Diet Coke that no one drank.
This felt like a case of poor leadership, unclear communication, and tension between staff that spilled over into the guest experience. Chuck’s, this review is not about a drink — it’s about how you treat people. This evening was supposed to be a nice dinner with family, and instead it left us feeling unwelcome, uncomfortable, and disappointed.
We won’t be returning to this location, and I truly hope others don’t have the same...
Read moreUnfortunately, although the food here is great, the service is lacking. Having been here several times, I can confidently say that the service has been horrid each time. The latest experience I had was particularly horrible.
The wait for a table was nearly an hour, even though there were multiple tables that were vacant (though not cleaned). The server was pondering around and avoiding to clean the tables, even after we kindly requested if the vacant table could be cleaned for our party of 5. Mind you, we have been waiting roughly 45 minutes before this request was made.
When the tables were finally cleaned, the server approached us aggressively stating “we don’t allow take-away after 9pm, by the way”. She was implying that we are unable to take our food “to go” if there were leftovers, which was such an odd policy for a restaurant. If the reason was due to a lack of containers, then understandable. But she gave zero explanation and just said that it was “policy” and if we had any leftovers, it would go straight to the trash. We have not even sat at our table nor ordered any food yet.
The server then rushed us to order our drinks and food, even though we were seated no longer than a minute. We were waiting for a couple more people to arrive, and our server was asking us to put in their drinks even though they were not present.
We ordered a handful; one of the dishes that usually comes with sour cream was missing the sour cream. So it would only be reasonable to request for a side of sour cream, right? Wrong. Our server told us that she would have to charge us $2 for the sour cream, so forget it.
Now, each table should come with a bottle of Tabasco sauce, right? Wrong. So we asked for the bottle of Tabasco sauce and ketchup. We were told there was no more ketchup (?), and the server brought us a side of Tabasco sauce without the bottle. No big deal, so we thought.
When the bill came, there was a miscellaneous charge of $1. I thought the server might’ve accidentally charged us for the sour cream, which I declined. When I inquired, the server said the $1 charge was for the side of Tabasco sauce. I was baffled. Am I really being charged for a sauce that should’ve been on the table side to begin with? I asked the server why she wouldn’t have told me to begin with, to which she replied “I thought you should’ve known. Do you want the $1 removed or something?”. Well, I thought she should’ve known it was her job to inform us first.
There were many more little aggressions here and there, but the above were the main issues. Aside from that, the food was good and came quick. Sadly, this young lady’s service just had to ruin it all.
TLDR; horrible service, decent food. Better off to go to the Chuck’s on Queen...
Read moreLast night was my 5th time to come to this location because I was quite impressed with the food and the prices. My favorites are surf and turf, bruschetta and sizzling steak teriyaki.
So last night we decided to have dinner in this location again with my husband. Food was good but SERVICE WAS PRETTY BAD.
We were greeted by a staff named VEHDI (not sure if I spelled it right). So she showed us our table and came back to get our order. We ordered 2 appetizers and was FORCED to get drinks. She said it is a must that we must order "DRINKS". I went ahead to check the VERY FINE PRINT on the menu but all I read is it only says "DRINK PURCHASE REQUIRED". I tried to tell her I didn't want any drink for me but my husband ordered a drink for himself. She kept on insisting that it is their rule but we explained to her that last time we were here, nobody forced us to order 2 drinks. She was so unprofessional, condescending and she even said "maybe another server allowed it but I WON'T. Don't take it personal". Mind you, I didn't really mind the $3 payment for a drink but I just didn't feel like drinking anything but water last night.
So we still went ahead to place the order for the appetizers and 2 drinks. The same server rolled her eyes on me while walking to another table. She ignored me when I called her to bring us cutlery sets - which should've been placed on our tables after she took our order. My husband ended up going to her to get the cutleries as she was still ignoring me/us. These series of events made us lose our appetite. We didn't end up finishing the appetizers nor drinks.
We decided to leave and just pay the bill. I asked for the bill from Vehdi @9:30pm but she didn't come right away. Even the other guy from the other table said the same. He was waiting for his bill for the last 15mins. The other server (Sarah) went to the guy on the next table for his bill and payment around 9:40. So I asked her for ours and she came quickly with our bill @9:42pm.
I NEVER got so disappointed with a restaurant service my entire life. I always leave positive feedbacks with restaurantS and always see the positive side of things and leave good tips. But last night's experience is ridiculous and shouldn't be tolerated by any customer.
I will never come back to this location unless they train VEHDI properly. She needs to know how to talk properly to customers. I work in retail too and treat my customers with outmost respect and choose the right words to use. Hope the management does something about it as I've also read a similar review posted couple...
