Ananda Bhavan was our family first trip here. We were a large group of 13 people and since they don’t take reservations we did a walk in.
We didn’t have to wait long during our walk in. The tables and chairs were clean and they were able to move some stuff around to get our entire group together.
Service: The service was good and fairly fast. I think some of the servers were new so when we asked some questions about the menu they had to go back and confirm. I like that. I would rather they confirm with the experienced staff there as opposed to randomly saying yes and no and food order gets messed up.
The utensils: I am from an Indian background so I understand the symbolic meaning behind serving your customers in a steel plate. But I think one has to realize that steel plates and glasses leave lots of water stains and calcification marks. I think one of their major competitors switched to white plastic dishes as white shows less so people complain less. Anyways, it’s nasty to serve your customers especially first time customers with these dirty utensils.
The food: Amazing. Honestly between the servers and the ambiance and the food this place was a hit. There was zero mistakes or mix up with our orders and everything tasted excellent. We tried the Masala Idli and the Rasam and man, I have never had such crispy and tasty idli. It was amazing.
I think this place has so much potential and I am sure they will get there some day. They just have to make sure about the little things especially the plates and glasses you give your customers. If you see it’s dirty when you are putting them on the table then you should remove it right away without the customer showing you.
I will definitely recommend this place if you want to try something new, quick and where you don’t have to wait weeks to get a reservation like Guru Lukshmi.
P.S :) Don’t forget to try the Madras Coffee after your...
Read moreI don’t usually leave reviews like this, but my recent experience at your restaurant pushed me to speak up. While the food and overall atmosphere were decent, the service from one particular staff member, VIGNESH, was shockingly disappointing and completely unprofessional. In the service industry, attitude matters just as much as the food—but unfortunately, VIGNESH seems to have missed that memo entirely.
When it came time to serve our table, VIGNESH showed no courtesy, no smile, not even a simple “here are your plates” or “enjoy your meal.” Instead, he dropped the plates on the table like he was throwing a tantrum, not serving paying customers. His body language screamed arrogance, and his attitude was straight-up cold and careless. If I could give zero stars for service, I absolutely would—and VIGNESH would be the reason why.
To be blunt, VIGNESH, if you’re reading this—put that attitude in your pocket. This isn’t the kind of energy that belongs in hospitality. You’re not doing anyone a favor by serving with that kind of vibe. Learn the basics of customer service before stepping onto the floor.
I truly hope the management team takes this seriously. Everything else about the visit was on point, but VIGNESH single-handedly turned what could’ve been a great experience into a disappointing one. I’m not here to bash for no reason—I just hope this is taken as constructive feedback to maintain better standards. Because if this is how VIGNESH treats guests regularly, it’s definitely a red flag for your brand.

Read moreAmazing South indian food!
Went there for South indian today and it was better than a couple of other south indian restaurants we have tried!
Pros: Great food: We were in a big group and ordered lots to eat. Everything was fantastic. The medu vada was crispy and tasty, the sambhar and chutneys were great as well. Masala idli was yummy but a little on the spicier side. We also liked the gobhi fry and idlis we had ordered for starters. For mains, we ordered mysore masala dosa, paneer dosa, Korma paratha, ghee rawa dosa, rawa masala dosa, and an uttapam Everything was great. The only complaint I heard from the group was that the rawa masala Dosa's masala was OK and not mindblowing. We also ordered filter coffee and badam milk, and it was loved by all.
Spacious restaurant: good spacious restaurant, the kids could look out of the window and play without bumping into others. Enough parking outside as well.
Cons: Tends to get very busy during peak lunch or breakfast hours. That might impact the service and time taken to get food. We had come in early and most of the mains came at the same time, my dish (the paneer dosa) came so late that everyone was done eating south their food. This was mostly because the restaurant had become very busy around that time. The taste of the dosa definitely compensated for this though and we left...
