I wish I could give them 5 stars. It is a really good pizza. The dough is good, the ingredient quality is good, and the topping amount is generous. Also, the price is competitive and their customer service is good. The only reason is not a 5 stars pizza for me is the sauce. And don't get me wrong, it is good quality, and some people say it's their favorite thing about the pizza place, but it is not of my taste. It has a distinct flavor that feels alien and kicks my taste buds in a way that screams 'this ingredient should not be here'. It is the fennel/light anis flavor that gives a licorice aftertaste. I understand in some places like Naples, sometimes it is used, but I can't stand it. And is not the flavor per se. I am used to the flavor in other dishes and even beverages. It is just not for pizza. Most Italian pizzaiolos would say the secret to a good pizza sauce is to use good sauce tomatoes and to keep it simple. Full disclosure, I've been to Italy and tried their different pizzas. Also tried pizzas in different countries and it is understandable that as in almost every dish, there are local variations to adapt to the local preferences. I guess it is a personal preference. I wish I could just take the flavor out or just have the option of a traditional tomato sauce with no other ingredients. I recommend the place and I will come back almost every time because it is the go to option in...
Read moreBeen purchasing pizza from Marias for 40+ years. If you want good pizza but absolute crap service and attitude Marias West is the one to purchase from. If you want excellent pizza with zero attitude go to the separately owned one down town.
I called an order in, I was put on hold for ever then the woman finally came back and asked what can she get me. I gave the order, she repeated it back but it was very faint and crackly but I could make out my items and the word “ok” but nothing else. I stopped in about 15 mins after placing the order just to say I could not make out what you said. She then says we don’t have your order. I said I called at 5:23 I could faintly hear whomever took the order. Then she said oh you probably heard me take someone elses order. I said really? after being on hold, you come back and take my order and repeat it now you say you don’t have it. She just shrugged and chuckled.. sorry. I asked since there was an issue on their end could they make my order fairly quickly and she turned to me and said we have many other customers ahead of you, sir and I said not really. I placed my order 20 minutes ago so I think I’d appreciate it if you could maybe squeeze me in and she said no sorry.
You will NEVER get this attitude and crap service...
Read moreHeard about Maria’s West over and over since moving to Brantford so decided to give it a try
Being new and not knowing what to expect I went to the location to order a pizza. Upon arrival ordered and was told it would be an hour wait. That’s ok, it’s my fault not knowing and not realizing how busy they are. I think this restaurant has to be the busiest in Brantford. People in and out none stop . I suggest calling in at least an hour in advance
The staff are extremely friendly and personable. As people came in to get their pizza they were greeted by name more times than not. While I waited they conversed when they could and kept following up on my order with the team in the back
You know walking in it’s a local establishment. Family pictures and awards are hung with pride throughout
Now for the pizza . We got a big square pizza . You can taste the “home made “ with their sauce and dough. The toppings were plentiful .It tasted good. My only issue was the dough in center of the pizza was “soft”,maybe a tad under cooked .it fell apart as we tried to pick it . That didn’t stop us from enjoying it with a fork ,knife. I will say for $50 you get your moneys worth
That won’t stop us from ordering.Next time we are thinking of a...
