It's a cold rainy day and I finally decided to give AKD a try for tne first time. I've walked past many times and after viewing their content on Instagram it was pretty convincing and tneor meals look delicious. Unfortunately the experience left me feeling rather low and upset. I placed a take out order (which seemingly can only be don e via Uber Eats). So I did. The oder placed around 6:45pm and app said meal was ready for pick up at 7:15pm. A short 5 min walk from my place and I got there for 7:25. The place is small and I stand by the door for what seems like an unusual long time without being acknowledged or greeted so I walk towards the back where there's a counter. There's a lady there head down and I wait patiently until it becomes almost uncomfortable and I simply say "hello!" She looks up at me and then back down at what she was doing with no acknowledgement and then later walks away to tend to tables. I'm standing there for what's becoming a very uncomfortably long period before a gentleman comes up and asks me what my order number is... I didn't know I just said mobile order for Neil and showed him my phone. He walked away and after some time said it will only be a minute but 10 min later I'm asked if I can go wait by the door. The same gentleman comes and gives me my order at 7:50. I asked him if I could give him some feedback and said it was my first time there and felt very unwelcome, and my order was quite late. I said I recognize the restaurant could be busy but I was completely ignored upon arrival . What happened next shocked me... I was told it's because Uber drivers are very pushy. Taken aback I said I was a paying customer ans regardless it would be nice to be acknowledged and at least greeted. I am in fact a visible minority and by most standards perhaps most Uber eats employees might be visible minorities and I have seen on first hand how pushy and rude they can he however; none of those factors were at play here other than me placing an order through Uber and being a visible minority. I feel socially accepted decorum is out the door with some of these delivery services and stereotypes exist but I feel this experience was completely off side. I expressed to him how unwelcome my experience was and that he stereotyped me based on my appearance. While he did apologize after the fact I'm not sure I'll be back. The food was palatable and probably very good but instead of eating it I felt compelled to share this review as it just didn't make me feel very good and my appetite took a turn. The pork on the meat lovers wasn't even charred as I see them do on theor IG videos with a butane torches likely cus they prepared the meal only...
Read moreChicken Karage was really good. They automatically gave us two mayo dipping sauces without asking (one spicy and a non-spicy for my kiddo). Ajitama egg was spot on…perfectly gooey inside and not overly under or over cooked. Tasty soy and mirin exterior. There were two halves (one 1/2 got gulped down by my daughter before I could snap the pic). Most places seem to only serve 1/2 an egg but this place is good value and gives a whole egg. The Yue Choy veggies were also a non-traditional nice touch that were crisp and complemented the broth. The noodles had a nice texture. I liked having the condiments on the table (toasted sesame seeds, fried shallots, and Shichimi Togarashi) that helped bring a different dimension to the already tasty broth. The only thing I was not too fond of were the slices of chicken breast meat, which I found a bit dry…but that may just be me as I’m not a white meat fan. I would have preferred melt in your mouth pork cha-shu but I don’t think they offer that on the menu without also having the chicken (ie “meat lover ramen”). Service was also quick and very friendly. I’ll be a repeat customer…especially since I want to try their Japanese...
Read more🔴Ramen review with slight criticism.🔴
A wonderful little gem situated in the New Westminster sky train station. I have been here many times since they opened and have experienced the changes they have done to improve their ramen since then. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a lightly salty and umani rich broth, thin and bouncy noodles with an absolutely delightful egg.
The only criticism I have is with their stamp cards and the rewards. It is your typical buy 10 bowls get the 11th free yet there are two rewards. One of them is Gyoza after 5 purchased bowls and the last one is free original ramen.
I filled an entire card and when cashing it in for my free Gyoza and bowl of ramen I was told that I could only get or the other, not both. If you wanted the Gyoza then you would cash it in and have to start over again OR you can fill the entire card for only the free bowl of ramen.
I re-read the card while ordering and it states nothing about what I was told when cashing it in and nothing states this is how it is done. I hope this helps for many who may get confused when cashing in their stamp cards in the future, to avoid the...
