Nothing like the Burnaby location. The food is decent but customer service was horrible. Just as i was waiting for my food i asked if i needed a number or anything as they didnt give me a receipt. There were 3 other people in the store so they said it wont be a problem. They ended up giving my order to another customer (im not sure how they made the mistake as this guy didnt look anything like me). The other guy had ordered behind me so when i saw him walk out i assume they gave him my order. When i asked them they said yeah its coming right up - i confirmed my order was what they were currently making and it was not. They proceeded to suggest it was my mistake and that i should have been ready. I was sitting right beside the counter. There were no words spoken they jsut handed the bag to the other guy. After explaining that they gave the wrong order to the other guy they told me i could PURCHASE THE OTHER GUYS ORDER! No... no... they werent going to just give me the other order (not what i ordered) rather wanted to sell it to me. I was surprised to say the least. After about 5 mins of negotiation they said they would make another one. Needless to say i will never be back to this spot as they cant figure out orders with 4 people in the shop (1 of which was a skipthedishes delivery...

I am altering my review because I like and respect the owner. He challenged me on the $30 price. Let me clarify - ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE SANDWICH experiences you have ever paid for so you had better enjoy it. These are great people at BIG STAR. They try hard and have do indeed have a great product.

I had a sandwich experience that was over $30 ($18.50 for sandwich + drink and tip for one person. How can you have a foot-long sandwhich without a drink and chips...right?

On the tip, since no one else at the restaurant - just me and you...it is really awward so you have to tip. Also, you machine is lovingly programmed at 20% on top of taxes. You are right, not nearly $30 but OVER $30 sandwich, chips. drink and awkward mandatory tip for lunch.

As previously mentioned it was a great sandwich but I have not been back. Sorry to say it better be good for that price and it was! I did ahve sticker shock and buyers remorse after though, as I truly could have eaten a...

Went right when they opened at 11am on a weekday. Tried their number 1 which was a turkey cranberry sandwich. I've never been to this franchise but the look outside made it look like these guys know sandwiches. My 2 other friends had the number 28. We were all disappointed in their bread...it was grainy, dry and tough to eat. It was almost like a couple days old bread. To boot, my filling seemed like mayo mixed with cranberry jam of some sort and tossed with dry chicken cubes... it tasted like those 7-11 cold sandwiches in the deli section. One of my friends asked if they do toasted, but the manager or owner i think? said they dont toast because of the filling inside...not sure what that meant but seems like a irrelevant answer to the question. Wont be coming back. Oh and telling us coffee is 50 cents with a purchase (after we paid) was kind of pointless. I can tell the owner/operator cared but I think they just missed the mark...

Tasty but way too expensive. Portions sizes have become really stingy lately. Weight of the sandwich is not a pound as promised in advertising. See pics. I’m really unhappy paying $16.50 for sandwich that’s advertised as a large, but that ends up being just a tiny sandwich consisting of just bread and a little bit of roast beef cold cuts (see pics) with a bland gravy-like sauce that you have no choice but to dip into because the sandwich is mostly bread so dry it’s hard to swallow (see pics). At the pub on 3rd Ave, it costs $20.50 for a proper beef dip, with fresh bread, it’s loaded with real house made roasted beef, real au jus and with a large portion of fresh crispy fries. I wish someone would open a decent sandwich shop in Richmond like the great ones in Vancouver on Pender, Commercial and Broadway. For now, I’ll just stick to the many great bahn mi shops when I want a good sandwich in Richmond.

Was excited to try out a new place, especially given that they cook their own meats. The girls behind the counter were nice and offered suggestions on what to get, so I went with their recommendation. Overall the sandwich came out looking ok but as soon as I picked it up I could tell that it was doused in sauce. The bottom bread was soggy and squeezing it caused sauce to come no out the sides. Trying the beef on it's own, it tasted as good as any roast beef I've had, but was undetectable as part of the sandwich - the sauce was just too over powering. After a few more bites I couldn't shake the feeling that I had eating similar sandwiches before, and that's when I realized that it was basically a Quiznos sub without the toasting. Next time I'll try the turkey and hope for better.

First time trying Big Star, and it met the expectations of being a solid sandwich shop. Price can be a bit steep, but at least the size of the large is fair. Picture shows a large Tony Montana (~$13.50) pulled pork sandwich. Pork was tender and moist, the saucing amount was just right, and the bread is excellent. Hickory sticks are interesting, but a novelty which the sandwich doesn't have to have. Would go back to try their 20+ other menu options at some point.
