Match Eatery & Publish House is a modern gastropub located outside of Starlight Casino in New Westminster. The interior is fairly dark and industrial-looking but they do have some skylights which lets in some natural light. I was actually surprised at how large this place is and it’s filled with large, flat screen tvs. I’m sure that it must get busy here during weekends or sporting events but it was fairly quite when I came here for lunch during the weekday.
When I came by on a Tuesday, they were running a special on their tacos ($6 instead of the usual $10) so I couldn’t pass that up. The Crispy Fish Tacos were pretty good. Although the wrapper was a bit dry, the battered fish was crispy and topped with a mango salsa, crunchy slaw, and a slightly spicy chili cream sauce.
I came back for a revisit to try their Pulled Bacon Mac and Cheese ($14.75). Given how dim it is in some parts of the establishment, I decided to sit at the bar so I could get some sunlight coming in from the skylight. This dish is pretty much as it’s described… which is partly unfortunate. I would have preferred crispy bacon to go along with the cheesy macaroni noodles. Instead, there was a fairly generous amount of pulled pork which is chewier and leaner (and somewhat dry).
The macaroni was okay and had a bit of bread crumb topping to it. But although it was cheesy, it lacked any significant cheese pull.
Overall, fairly average eats but not bad considering the lack of dining establishments...
Read moreUnfortunately I don’t have a full experience to share. I came in for late lunch/dinner with my mom , I came in before her to grab a table as it’s game day and I knew it would be a bit busier. I was seated right away but did not receive any service for the first 15 minutes. I watched the server go to another table multiple times and not once acknowledge that I was sitting there. I got up and walked to the bar to ask for a server to which he replies “ yeah yeah I’m coming” I said okay but it’s been 15 minutes “ yeah yeah coming” Took him another 5 minutes to come to the table we ordered our drinks (I ordered a Caesar- he never asked for ID and a water and my mom got Coke Zero and water) the pop and Caesar came but waters did not. The drinks also took a long time by the time they came I was pretty done and over this. He set my Caesar down infront of me then proceeded to ask me for ID AFTER he already served me. I told him to cancel everything and we will go eat elsewhere. Instead of realizing his service was the issue he kept repeating he has to ask me for ID. To which I mentioned it’s not about my ID it’s about your lack of service and the attitude that is going along with it.
He clearly is overwhelmed and not experienced enough to be serving in a place such as this. I also put blame on the management who put 1 server on during a busy time and have the staff respond with “ sorry you can see it’s busy” instead of being a team and picking...
Read moreTried to book a room for a birthday party at the restaurant. After multiple emails no response. Finally got a hold of a person and booked a table for 20.
They got the date wrong by two weeks and tried to confirm the wrong date. Then they tried to say they could give me multiple booths and a small table instead of the one large table I had initially booked.
On the day of the party I bought in our own cake and candles. Was told that they couldn't put on the full 30 candles bc of melting issues tho no other restaurant has had this issue before. The waitress left the cake for us to cut ourselves and had to double check when I asked for them to cut ( isn't it standard procedure ? ). Cake was cut and bought out to the tables but the macaroons were missing. When I asked the waitress about them I had a supervisor come out and try to tell me that the "one and only" macaroon on the cake ( there were multiple macaroons on the cake ) was shattered when the chef cut the cake. Which person would try to cut into macaroons and not remove them before cutting a cake??? This felt like a blatant lie with the only explanation being that the macaroons were eaten by the staff. She said to make up for it they would send a round of shots for the table. Feels like a large over comp for “ accidentally shattering one macaroon”. Also I'm sure the entire cake didn't make it to us in our to go boxes. Super disappointed with the service at this restaurant and would...
