Do not recommend, especially for group event.
Reservation for group of 42, they provided seating for 34. Entrees were to have been served at 7, brought out at 7:40pm. Four different entrees, 3 servings each, and our table received 1 tray of crudities while every other table had veggies as well a calamari, nachos, and sliders. We were never given an opportunity to place drink orders; our hostess tracked down the waitress and placed the order for us.
We waited 2 1/2 hours to place our main course orders and we had to ask for water. Meals started arriving impressively quickly, only 8 minutes after being entered into the POS. Unfortunately, meals showed up for everyone but me. We had to wait for the waitress to come back to ask how the food was so we could tell her that while everyone was almost done with their plate, I still had not been served. She appeared shocked, kindly apologized, and 4 minutes later, I had my plate, which had been VERY obviously left forgotten sitting under a heat lamp the entire time. By the time they brought my plate 30+ minutes after the rest of the group, their "fried chicken tacos" -- which were plainly 'Costco-style' freezer chicken strips -- were dry on top, soggy underneath, the guacamole had turned dark and formed a skin, and the poutine was bowl-shaped mass of soggy fries glued solidly with congealed gravy and dried cheese. It looked so unappetizing, I'm honestly shocked they dared serve it, never mind charge for it.
By 10:40pm, my order was 'graciously' comped and I went without a meal. Our table was never cleared and guests were forced to eat dessert, which was brought in and served by the hosts, holding their plates above used dinner plates, empty drink glasses, and half-finished entree trays.
Make sure to have hand sanitizer with you for the bathrooms. They're not kept clean, toilets unflushed, toilet paper dispenser was empty, and 3 of the 4 hands-free faucets didn't turn on.
The ONLY saving grace was our waitress was friendly if not attentive.
Beyond disappointed and frankly PO'ed that I spent 4+ hours in a "restaurant" that never actually served me food. Seriously wondering how a place like this...
Read moreWent to Houston's with a party of 24 tonight and, based on service delivered to me, my experience was extremely disappointing.
I arrived later than the majority of the group, at 7:15, but they were all seated tightly around two tables already. There was just enough space for myself and my partner to squeeze in as well.
I was happy to see a waiter came by fairly quickly to see if we wanted drinks, and to take the children's orders for food. One of the party wanted to place their entree order at that time, but they were told that the kids' orders were going in first. That's fine! No problem.
From then on, it was a waiting game. It took around 30 minutes for the kids' food to come out. After that, it took another half an hour for the adult entree orders to be taken. By now, it's around 8:30 and everyone is ravenous.
Our entrees collectively came out around 9:30, following a slow trickle of appetizers, which not many people ordered, and the kids' desserts.
The delivery of the entrees was inconsistent and messy, with servers not knowing where to hand out plates. I figured they would have a system to do this, and no one in the party was swapping seats, but no big deal! We tried to help them send the food to the right place and it got there in the end.
I ordered a Bacon & Cheddar Burger with skinny fries, and it was disappointing to realize that the kids' fries has been seasoned better than mine were. Comparatively, mine were bland and tasteless. My top bun was also cracked (see the picture) while the bottom bun was soggy, telling me that my food had been sitting ready for a while. The burger was average at best, tasteless if I'm honest.
I heard better things from the people sitting around me, one of them ordered a California Chicken Salad and the other a Flat Iron Steak.
We got our bills around 10pm, and got out of there as quick as possible.
The servers were doing the best they could, given the tense circumstances (covid, busy Saturday night, big group), but I'm in no hurry for Houston to disappoint me on another occasion. Can't recommend and...
Read moreHouston Bar & Grill has a pleasant atmosphere in the dining room, but they could consider scaling back their extensive wine menu, which was quite overwhelming. Additionally, two bottles listed on the menu were unavailable. Unfortunately, the waitress suggested alternatives that didn't align with our preferences, resulting in us not ordering a bottle. It seems logical that if no wine was ordered, the waitress should have cleared the wine glasses from our table to create more space, but she did not do so.
When we ordered sparkling water initially, the waitress provided lemon wedges but forgot to bring water glasses. After reminding her, she returned with the water glasses but still didn't remove the wine glasses from our table. It's concerning that such small details aren't taken seriously by the owner.
It's understandable why they have a 3.8-star rating. Despite being in a 3-star restaurant, the prices on the menu reflect those of a 4-star establishment. While I don't mind the prices, I prioritize the quality of service.
Anyway, when our food arrived, we ordered steak, but surprisingly, it didn't come with a steak knife, which seemed quite careless. The waitress neglected to ensure we had everything we needed. I was so frustrated that I didn't even want to call her over. Instead, I reluctantly used a butter knife. Perhaps the owner or manager might find this amusing, but it's these small details that truly matter and can significantly impact the dining experience.
Different people dine out for various reasons: some for the opportunity to enjoy a meal they didn't have to cook, some for romantic dates, and others specifically for the quality of service. In my generation, good service is essential for...
