I am very upset with my experience at La Nuit Shanghai. I went for my cousin’s birthday last year and we had the group menu. We received ALL of our good back to back pretty quickly and everything was smooth. I decided to celebrate my birthday here last night after raving about how amazing the place was. I was so embarrassed for my guests and would never return to this restaurant. I also chose the group menu for 98$ and ordered around 9:10 pm ish, the first 3 appetizers arrived around 9:40-9:57 (small salad, dumplings, and calamari). The next item that came out was sushi and that arrived around 10:45 pm.. at this point we were starving and waiting so long for our main surf and turf meal. The restaurant turns into a club vibe at this point, everyone is partying and it appears as if they forgot about our meals. We asked a couple of times where our food was and was told “the order was placed” .. “they are plating” .. when the steak arrived it was raw. I sent it back to have it cooked again and it was still raw. (I only was able to see this when I requested knives for the table.. unsure why they werent there considering we ordered steak .. but after being able to cut into a few pieces) At this point, I have no appetite anymore. I’ve been waiting over 2 1/2 hours for the main dish for it to be subpar. The surf and turf meal was VERY bland and inedible.
My friend who ordered lamb chops on the side had to return her food due it being very bland.
Overall, I am very upset with this experience. My guests & I spent 98$ for their meal to eat appetizers basically not including drinks.
Owners solution: 1 round of shots and 20$ off everyone’s bill. I was not happy with that solution as we waited so long to eat and didn’t get to enjoy the main meal one bit. We left the restaurant around midnight still hungry.
On the contrary, my waitress Eve was sweetheart. She was so patient and understanding.
Just to add one of my guests owns a restaurants and understands the pressure on the floor and in the kitchen, and agrees that the under seasoned food, raw steak twice, and super long wait is NOT okay but she commended the waitresses efforts.
I will not be back and I do not recommend. Major 180 from last year...
Read moreDined in as a group of 4 on a Saturday night. To be honest food and service is good. $800 bill for 4 people. For example: The duck (menu for 2) cost $168, more than double the price for usual Duck dish served similarly elsewhere (minus the flambee show poured on top) To explain this overpriced menu is the 'entertainment' that accompanies dinner supposed to start at 7pm and a small show every 30 mins... First there was the poor girl just standing pretty with a very fitted costume that covers even her face holding a frame, meant to only stand pretty without seeing and talking ... an attraction for guests to take pictures with. For me personally, it was a bit cringing. Then came a show that started at 7:45... 2 cute girls just doing a regular easy vegas style dance routine. It's ok I guess. They came back with another dance routine. Then there was the female acrobat with some handstands, flips and splits done with fluorescent sexy bodysuit and glow in the dark paint. It's ok for most. Which explains why the crowd was mostly people celebrating bachelorettes or bachelors. I read on the site no jeans, shorts but that was not the case. I did expect the old shanghai feel... with real performers (aerialist, acrobats, firebreathers, etc... which is not difficult to recruit in Montreal) but then I heard the firebreather and aerialist got fired. I am wondering if only performers that show extra skin gets hired and skin is preferred over quality performance...? Glad I tried but I prefer a classy dinner in town and a performance at Le Monastère -...
Read moreI have been dying to go here, but I was left super disappointed by the whole thing. They were advertising an all-you-can-eat oyster night with a burlesque show on Instagram for $20. Once we got there, we were informed that to get the all-you-can-eat oysters, you each MUST order something else from the main dishes (minimum 20$/dish). So we did what we had to do and ordered 2 sushi dishes and the 2 all-you-can-eat oysters. I admit, the food was pretty good, except the calamari.
We had a reservation at 6:30 and an hour later the show still hadn't started. I asked the waitress about it, and she said that it usually begins at 7:15. At 7:45 the dancer came out and she was wonderful! However, don't expect a cabaret with back to back numbers. It's a very short performance, then you wait like 40 minutes for the next one. In the 2 hours we were there, we got maybe 5 minutes of dancing?
At around 8:30 we ordered a third platter of oysters to share (at this point, we've only had 1 platter each). This is when we were told that they apparently stop the service at 8. Would have been nice to know... especially with the slow service. Not to mention, a platter went to a different table right after our waitress told us this.
Anyway... like I said, we were VERY disappointed. Very overpriced, and we left feeling scammed after dishing out $100 each for what was supposed to be...
