We had made plan to celebrate our son-in-law’s birthday yesterday but as he and family live an hour away and the roads in their area had not been cleared up unfortunately, we had to postpone our family dinner celebration. One of our daughters who lives close-by mentioned that our granddaughter was disappointed our dinner had been postponed as she had been looking forward to it as she always enjoys going to the “restaurant with fire” as she calls it, so last minute we decided to go anyway just the 4 of us. For the first time in 10 years at Hibachi about a month ago we were disappointed with our surf and turf that was overcooked and lobster being so dry and tasteless that my husband opted to order the salmon this time around. We had some appetizers to start with and after eating all the side dishes my husband could not finish eating all the fish on his plate. The restaurant was busy for family day and our plates stayed in front of us for quite some time before they came around to take the dishes away. Suddenly we were all in shock and disbelief to see a bug crawling out of the leftover salmon from my husband plate. It looked like a brownish worm but also looked like a tiny silver fish moving around, we just could not believe our eyes as the bug was wiggling with struggles to crawl out of the leftover fish. My husband didn’t want me to make a big scene in front of the other two families sitting at our table to not ruin their meals, so I took his plate to the front cash register where two employees looked at it and saw clearly the wormy thing was alive and moving around. When our waiter eventually came back to our table to ask if anyone wanted boxes for their leftovers and taking orders for dessert, tea, coffee, etc, all we wanted is our bill and get out of there as fast as possible. After waiting about 10 minutes we decided to leave the table and requested our bill at the cash register. We do acknowledge that the staff certainly did not deliberately served us with contaminated food but we had hopes that possibly they would have been kind enough as a courtesy to exclude the salmon dish from our bill but all charges were on it which we paid close to $300 after leaving a good tip as we felt that it was not the server's fault or chef cooking at our table. Really all we were hoping for was an apology or perhaps thanking us to have had brought this matter to their attention so they can thoroughly inspect their fish, container and prep area to avoid serving the same to other customers. Our server was the person at the cash to process our bill and after payment I politely mentioned about our experience just in case he had not been made aware of it and he simply said oh was that you who had a bug on your plate and said I can request to have another salmon cooked for you to take home if you want. Wow really?? We certainly did not bring this matter to get a free take-out food with parasite. It was so insulting to hear that comment that to think we would even consider a free contaminated meal when all we wanted is to make them aware of the unacceptable disgusting situation and hoping they would take this very seriously to make sure to inspect their fish, kitchen and food prep area to avoid serving the same to others if they want to stay in business. My only regret is I wish I had taken photos and video of the parasite crawling out of the salmon. We wondered why a worm or a small silver fish would be still alive after cooking but obviously it did survive somehow after the food cooled down and we feel it’s warranted to make people aware of our disgusting experience. We are also still wondering if my husband did not ingest some dead bugs without knowing it but fortunately, he did not get sick overnight. Still giving two stars as my food and daughter's food was good but certainly after this experience it really left a bad taste in our mouth. The kitchen definitely needs health inspection and for us this was our last time to this location and will never return again! Please beware if you are ordering fish at...
Read moreVery disappointed overall. Used a coupon from wagjag and were aware of the prix fix menu.
The restaurant: The restaurant itself was clean and well organized. Our table area was right next to some kind of cold air return so at times we were freezing. Other than that, not much else to share.
The food: We had a prix fix menu which included miso soup, garden salad, mixed vegetables, 4 pieces of sushi (California roll), vegetable fried rice, and the proteins: filet mignon, chicken, scallops, lobster.
We also ordered appetizers (these cost extra) beef gyoza and chicken karaage. These were pretty good. Gyoza standard, I suspect from frozen. Chicken karaage was decent.
I did not have the miso soup but was told it was ok. Sushi rolls were ok. Garden salad was a very small portion, with a couple of shreds of ice berg lettuce, a cucumber, and some carrots. The ginger dressing was good. The rice had a really nice flavour, however most of the meal ended up having the exact same flavour throughout because garlic herbed butter, oil, and various sauces were used for every single dish. Scallops and lobster were over cooked. The lobster was extremely fishy and overly sweet tasting, indicating that it was not fresh. Filet mignon was ok, cooked as requested, but had the exact same flavour as the rice, chicken, and vegetables. I’m not a major salt lover personally, but the food was also severely under salted. Our chef did not use salt or pepper once during his performance, yet we saw all of the other chefs using salt and pepper at the other tables. We also found out that one of the people sitting across from our party had reported an onion allergy. Unfortunately, I’ve been told the onion volcano is one of the most memorable parts, but this was missing from our chef’s already bland performance.
Onto the performance: Our chef was ok. Made a couple of jokes, tried to do the egg trick once and messed it up, and never tried again. At one point the chefs squirt each guest with what I assume (and hope) is water. I wasn’t a fan of this personally, but to each their own.
Forgot about the chopped broccoli off to the side and waited until the very end to do the vegetable in mouth throw trick. I don’t think he got it in a single person’s mouth. He just didn’t seem to be having a fun time and kind of gave up in my opinion.
At the very end when the food was finished being cooked he did try to do the onion thing, but the volcano didn’t sit right and he just scooped it into the garbage right away. Very disappointing.
As I mentioned above, our chef did not use salt or pepper at all, therefore the fun tricks and music with the salt and pepper shakers was missing from our chef’s performance.
I suspect there may have been a request from someone else at our table to not use salt or pepper on the food. Either way, I felt we did not get the same performance as we saw all of the other tables at the restaurant get. (We watched three plus our own!)
I also suspect we may have been treated differently because we had coupons from a popular deal website. There was one other couple at our table that also had the coupons. The last couple at our table did not have coupons. I know this because they ordered from a different menu than we did.
I also want to mention that refills are not free. We had to pay extra for drinks due to our coupons, no issue, however the refills added a lot on to our bill that we weren’t told about. Most places do free refills on fountain drinks, which was all we ordered.
The coupons would be an ok value if we had received an actual full performance. Due to my experience, I will not be returning to any Hibachi branded establishment. I also think the full price cost is not worth the performance or the food. I’m pretty disappointed that my first time going to a Hibachi restaurant wasn’t a very good experience. I think I’m being generous giving anything higher...
Read moreWorst experience. Table of 10 servers (so patient and understanding as we all know the busines) over priced, bland, small, inconsistent portions, had to ask to order drinks, ask (twice) for our rice to come, while our tiny portion of unseasoned steak and minitutre portion of cubed bland veg got cold. We had to practically beg for our soup to come. Chef was rushed rude and didn't say a word or listen/respond when spoken to.
We were made to wait 20 minutes for reservation, when the table was ready when we got there. I think they were waiting for more wlak in to fill up. But we made a reso for a time for a reason. By the time we asked to be sat after waiting and chasing down server for simpme drink and food requests, we were an hour an half past schedule (it wasn't busy at all) and some of our group had to sadly had to leave early. People around us were served first. It was bizarre
I feel more noticed and acknowledged by the staff at McDonald's, and at nearly $100 per person with drinks, apps, dinner, annnnd mandatory service charge 🤢( again, alll servers so more than happy to tip, annd left extra for the server that actually tried to do there job, although they too still had to flagged down. ).
Awful experience. Chef was late and gone in 15 minutes without a word, joke, trick, seasoning, ensuring everyone got food, annnnnd what they ordered. Spent most of our time "experiencing" (which I mean is why it's so overpriced for nothing foood) the Chef next to us. At the table of half the people that arrived after us, but had service before and after us continuously, and had consistent portions. There was 5 people on the other side of the table, our group was 10 people and the same amount of veg, meat, chicken rice, was prepared on grill for both groups. So smalllllllllll portions is an understatement. To top it off, the soup was 3 table spoons worth, and salad, 1 lettuce leaf choped into 5 pieces with some shredded carrot. The ginger dressing was nice tho, we wanted to drink it we were all so hungey and thristy from waiitng...
Such a biggg disappointment and also my birthday....we were going to make it a work tradition going forward, but none of us will ever be back.
Once again, I have been in the food and service industry for over 25 years, and have a lot of patience, tolerance, and understanding when eating out, and this was hands down one of the worst , grossly overpriced...
