The first thing I would like to address is that it's a very unique place and does fit the 50s theme. Otherwise, I will be talking about my experiences and will base my rating on the 3 categories (food, service, environment/atmosphere)
When walking into the restaurant, it was very tight and compact. No more than 6-7 people can fit inside, hence the seats outside and behind the restaurant. Restaurant holds the 50s theme inside and uses an old milkshake mixing machine, which was a nice touch. No washroom available, so make sure you have something to clean your hands with.
Service was neutral, nothing much to talk about. We order, wait, get the food, and eat. Honestly, it doesn't make a memorable experience, but my expectations weren't high.
The food, however, impressed me. Thick cut grandma fries were alright, and some don't maintain crispness for a long period of time. The LA burger, on the other hand, was very nice. Housemade bun held all the ingredients together and did not crumble. The patty was nicely seasoned and had the grill char flavor. The mushrooms, bacon, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes combined nicely offer a perfectly balanced burger. One tiny gripe I had was that my burger had more mustard than anticipated.
When it came down to the milkshake, I was thoroughly impressed. Perfect balance of sweetness, and you can taste the ice cream, milk, and then the strawberry. Simply amazing!
Before I left, I decided to try the bulldog. It was alright, but bun held everything together but proved to be messy to consume. The amount of mustard added was again too much, and other than the sausage (which was nice and had a nice slight char smoky flavor and the casing pops) was all I tasted. I'm not too impressed with it compared to the burger.
Overall, it's an impressive burger spot and definitely hits the spot if you are looking for a quality burger. Probably would recommend eating on an outside table, bringing your own hand wipes, and don't expect an amazing customer service from the establishment. Would definitely come back if im passing by Burnaby and craving a burger and milkshake. Would recommend to...
Read moreI feel like it really doesnt take much to impress me, but god was i disappointed by this godforsaken burger :/
PROS: -great poutine! Lots of gravy and cheese, and althrough the fries werent particularly crispy, it still tasted great. Im personally not a fan of thicker fries for poutine but i felt like it was still great despite that! -very nice and helpful employees -overall vibe and aesthetic of the place is super cool and very retro, even the machines -the patty of the burger was really well cooked and very juicy!
CONS: -the bun of the burger was kinda disgusting :/ Super greasy, thin and flaky (not in a good way) and not that great in quality tbh. It was litterally sopping wet and flat :/ -the lettuce from the burger was limp and dead, as if it was old nothing about the burger besides the patty was particularly memorable -the price of the burger was super expensive, which im 100% fine with, as i understand that made to order premium food is more expensive (as it should be!) BUT i only feel the values validates the price if its good. Instead it was a very expensive disappointment 😞 -my brother has bad allergies to specifc foods, and they messed up his order twice. The 1st time we asked for no mayo because hes super allergic to egg. They put mayo on the burger initally, and when we went back in to tell them then they remade it, but with the wrong bun this time (they put a whole wheat instead of white bun). I get that mistakes happen to everyone! I know the deal, ive worked in food service before too, but i TRULY dont think its that hard to be careful with an order that you know you already got wrong once and make sure you follow it correctly this time.
Sadly we wont be returning here, which is unfortunate cuz i really wanted to like this place. Definitely give the place a chance, but maybe just stick to...
Read moreThis is my third time at this location. I came once and the food was great, I got the pulled pork sandwich (4 years ago). The second time was a month later and the chicken sandwich I got was completely raw in the middle. Then manager yelled at staff in-front of me and when I asked for my money back insisted he give me new food. It was an extremely uncomfortable experience. I came today around 11:45 to try it again thinking it’s been a long time and the first time was good. Most of the sandwiches were different. I ordered two burgers and a shake. They looked great at first, size was to be desired but when I started eating them they were bad. The flavour competition on the Texas BBQ was wack 1/10. The flavour didn’t even make sense together and was just bad. The second burger was the Hawaiian. It was a 2.5/10. The flavour just tasted like nothing as I ate it. We got a large strawberry shake. It was nothing special and extremely small -see juice box for size comparison. I feel like fast food would be better. Unfortunately the portion sizes and flavour is substantially better at A&W. The bun got soggy as I ate it and was falling apart. There is not much seating outside. We sat in the back. There was a child’s play basketball net and a bunch of garbage and random things behind the two large trees. The staff weren’t rude or friendly. They seemed like they were just trying to get through the day. Not to mention the man wandering around on drugs grabbing at all the junk around the property. I would not recommend bringing your family here, as I with my 6ft5 partner did...
