We passed by there many times but never went in because I thought a Japanese restaurant's name without Japanese character might not be authentic. So I was wrong, and pleasantly surprised two days ago when we decided to take a chance. The menu looked quite standard at first glance but then I noticed the items under Aburi Sushi (torched surface sushi) and Oshi Sushi (pressed down sushi) were quite interesting - had unique combinations! Very tasty hotate-tobiko sushi and shrimp-tobiko sushi. A nice surprise was takoyaki, very soft inside and has that umami attached to the filling. Hubby was happy with his tonkatsu don too. The only thing they could do a bit better was kama yaki, though the fish cheek was very fresh, they could have used an extra pinch of salt. The staffs were friendly, even allowed us to move to a table further away from a group of very loud patrons. The price point is quite reasonable given the creativity, tastiness, and freshness that the chef put in. Don't be fooled if you feel that a Japanese restaurant must have Japanese chef - we have many talented chefs who can come from different heritage and they still serve authentic and delicious Japanese food. In this case, the staffs and some of the chef's behind the counters were Korean heritage. They...
Read moreSo i went here with my wife and 2 awesome kids as my wife saw good (FAKE) reviews about Sushi MODO. We arrived around lunch time and the place was pretty empty.
in years. The waitress gave us luke warm water which was sitting on the counter at room temperature for i don't know how long. As well the plastic jug in came in looked like it hasn't been washed in years.
I asked for an extra bowl for one of my kids and the waitress grabbed it two feet away from my table and put it on the table next to mine. so i just ended up walking the two feet myself and grabbed my own extra bowl.
I will be as HONEST as possible and give ratings accordingly:
SERVICE:(1 out 5) below average. Did not come by one time to refill our empty cups of previously filled with lukewarm water.
PRICE: (1 out 5) whole meal ended up costing $58.00 dollars (no tip for bad service) and we were all so thirsty i had to spend another $10 dollars on drinks somewhere else
FOOD: (2 out 5) food was average at best. Not bad and not good but since i was so thirsty afterwards i was not too happy about it. Maybe cause our glasses were not refilled at all during the whole meal.
REVIEW: (1 out 5 ) i would have a better experince going to Bunsen Lake and catching my own fish and making...
Read moreMe and my friend visited Sushi Modo on December 27th around 6:30-7:00 PM. My friend ordered the Chicken Karaage and a California roll and Spicy Tuna Roll and I ordered a California roll and spicy tuna roll. The food was decent and the workers were very kind, but I wish the quantity of food was higher.
What is causing me to give this restaurant a 1 star rating was that on December 28 around midnight, I was vomiting, having diarrhea, and experiencing severe chills that lasted the entire night (aka food poisoning). I know that I received food poisoning from Sushi Modo since I did not consume any meat or anything that was undercooked before my symptoms.
During the night, I called my friend and asked them if they were experiencing the same thing. Unsurprisingly, they were and they also believed it was due to the sushi we had. This was a very painful experience and I urge the restaurant owners to triple check if their food is safe to serve. Experiences like these enable customers such as myself to never visit again. If this did not happen, I would give this restaurant a 3.5-4 star rating. Will not be...
