First thing first! On a very busy Father’s Day, as a family, we were broaching the subject of what and where from we will have our lunch! Though there were plenty of ‘sit and dine’ option restaurants, we settled for online order or phone order and self pickup, as it happened to be a very busy day with every place having a long wait time. As we were browsing, we realized it’s time that we ordered from ‘Manjal’ (a Tamil word translates to ‘turmeric’ - a very basic and major ingredient in Indian food!), as we have been thinking for a long time to try out, in view of rave reviews about the place. We did the absolute right thing! From the very first step of placing the order, making payment, everything was a breeze, as they have an efficient online ordering system, just like any other big corporate!
We ordered a lamb Biriyani and a vegetable Biriyani and our order was ready to pickup on the dot of the time we ordered. The restaurant is located in a convenient place, central to all cities in the lower mainland, and has easy free parking facility. The packing of the food was nice and each portion was huge and more than enough to eat by 2 people. Marginally higher price (only 5% higher than its peers) compared to peer eateries very well justified, as one portion can become 2 meals.
The very first bite after unboxing had to tell so much. The taste and quality were superb and beyond compare, with authentic South Indian spices. The regular spice level may be bit higher for some people and in that case, please let them know beforehand that you need one step lower.
Best part in their preparations is, all meats are boneless. Again, it went to justify the slightly higher price.
The chef Mani G is a super chef and master in all Indian recipes with awesome culinary skills!
If and when you need a genuine South Indian fare, think no further, stop at Manjal! It will be a habit forming place, the way it did to us. In our future visits, we want to try all their items! Could have given 10 stars but ended up giving the maximum possible 5 stars! Highly recommended.
Please note this is not an insider review and the reviewer hails from the very hub of ‘eatery capital city’ namely ‘Madurai’ in the southern part of India who has tasted several food items all over the world and one of the ‘top 10% reviewers’ on Indian eateries worldwide in Google reviews!
Don’t miss out on this place! One of the few very best places in the world for South Indian food! Believe me, the food will impress regardless of the creed, colour and...
Read moreSaw the amazing reviews and decided to take my friend there on dec 4, 2021. We reached there around 12 pm and found it to be full, they had one table open which was close to the window so they assigned it to us and there was a family who came after us and they assigned them the table inside. This I found be to wierd, very wierd, felt kinda discrimination as we were 2 guys only. Nonetheless we sat at the table close to the door but since it was being constantly opened, we decided to switch as we were feeling cold. They gave us a new table inside after waiting for 10 mins. We ordered a dosa combo and one cheese mysore masala dosa. To our surprise, it took more than 30 mins for our order to come, not sure why even the idlis whicb come with the combo took time. Moreover the cheese mysore masala dosa came but mine masala dosa did not. To be honest, I have never waited so much at a south indian restaurant for a masala dosa and idlis. If it would have been some other customized dosa then I would still be like, its fine it might take time but for plain masala dosa it took so much time, very very surprising. Even people who came after our table got their food(non dosa item). Moreover when my masala dosa came it was very very crisp, like too much.. edges and the top layer is fine but even the button layer which held the masala was all crisp, it was like I was eating chips and not dosa. I told them about it and they got it a new one which was not that crisp. This was amazing to see that they got me a new dosa without any issues and they took the previous dosa away. I have uploaded the picture of the crisp dosa too. That said, the dosas were good in taste, I liked the sambhar and chutneys too. Even my friend liked it. Could have given a 4 or 5 star for the food but the initially experience was pretty bad hence the rating. Would not say that its a go to place because of the overall experience. Lemon terror drink was good too and the...
Read moreThis is hands down one of the best South Indian restaurants I’ve been to. The food is delicious, and the service is pretty speedy. I’ve dined in multiple times and also ordered in. I can definitely say every single time the deliciousness has been spot on! I will of course go back for more yummy food. A few items I’ve tried: Sambhar Idli- the idli is soft and fluffy. The sambhar is scrumptious, and the two accompanying chutneys (coconut and tomato) are delicious! The coconut chutney tastes like you’re eating a coconut. The tomato chutney was a bit too spicy for me. Sambhar Vada- The vada is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Also comes with the sambhar and two chutneys. Fish 65 dry-Amazing! The fish is soft and seasoned well. It doesn’t taste greasy or have an odd aftertaste. Chicken 65 dry- also very good. The chicken is tender and also seasoned well. Masala dosa- one of the best I’ve had. The dosa is crispy and the potatoes are seasoned so well with curry leaves. Chicken biryani- NOT chicken 65 biryani. The chicken is soft and tender, the rice is fluffy. This entire dish is wonderful and also one of the best I’ve had. If anything, else, try the biryani! It comes with a really nice raita. Kothu Parotta- I’ve tried two versions of this. Vegetable and egg and egg. I preferred the egg. The vegetable and egg were really good but the veggies weren’t cooked softly enough for my liking. The egg I preferred as the parotta is soft and so is the egg. With the addition of the curry leaves makes it such a unique dish IMO. I would order this again. My son also loved it! I highly recommend this place! Great for...
