EDIT: This used to be my go-to place for years for a great sandwich but after the past few recent visits it has been nothing but disappointment. Their roast beef used to be actual beef slices but now its nearly identical to the roast beef deli slices you get at Superstore (i.e. the Ziggy's brand). The turkey sandwiches also used to taste a lot better but now tastes like ground up dried mush. The bread also used to be a lot nicer but now its a soggy, mushy mess. With these changes, the sandwiches have no taste or texture anymore, all you can taste is the sauce now. The service before used to be good and the business had hired people who made the place more vibrant but now they do not care about you at all. On top of the absurd price increases along with the decrease in quality for a now below mediocre sandwich, you are seriously better off buying the ingredients and making a sandwich yourself cause there will be virtually no difference.
Old review from ~6 years ago: Staff are friendly and helpful. The couple of times I've been here the place has been pretty slow. However, this place has one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, would not recommend getting the deli sandwiches though, get everything but those instead. Had the roast beef sandwich recently and was filled with lots of meat, could use a bit more flavour instead of slathering a sauce. But for ~$10 a sandwich, it is definitely...
Read moreBig Star Sandwich Co. opened up a few years ago in a tiny shop located in New West. Since that time, they’ve moved into a larger location in New West and, at the same time, opened up a bunch of new locations. One such outlet is located on Canada Way in Burnaby, near Charlie’s Chocolate Factory.
The interior is fairly similar to their other locations with tall ceilings and an industrial vibe to it. As I’ve mentioned before, Big Star makes some of the best sandwiches around… the only thing that would make them better is if they had options to toast their sandwiches… just saying.
We picked up a regular size of their #2 Turkey, Bacon, Cheddar, Avocado ($8.98) with lettuce, tomato, mayo, honey mustard, and hickory sticks and their #28 Roast Beef, Bacon, Habanero Jack ($8.98) with lettuce, tomato, onions, hickory sticks, chipotle mayo, and bold bbq sauce. Like I said before, the only thing that would have made their Turkey, Bacon, Cheddar, Avocado sandwich better would have been if the sandwich was toasted.
Their #28 is also known as The Neeson because it’s the sandwich that lured Liam Neeson to their New West shop when he was in town filming. It’s no wonder because this is an outstanding sandwich. Big Star uses their very particular set of skills in making this crowd pleaser. Love the crunchy hickory sticks on top and the sauce has just the right amount...
Read more$3.25+ for a pop!!! Get off the crack boys... Little too much bread than fillings. For the price I kinda expected it to be a larger sandwich. But I'll say that it was fresh and energizing but doughy. Place has a cool atmosphere. Will have to revisit and try a different item to really make the call. By the time you factor in a drink, tax and tip you're into it for $15 eeek bit high for a casual quick lunch imo. The pop selection is glass bottles and expensive!!! They'd be better off having cans or fountain drinks, I despise paying up for a pop. Poor business decision here, distracts from the sandwich and Mexican coke is gross, flat and sweet. Update... I had a second sandwich one of the deli ones, tasted awesome, but needs something more for the price. If they added about 40g more meat and doubled the veggies (skimpy onions and have to ask for pickles) maybe I'd say it's worth the cost but right now Safeway deli has them beat for custom sandwiches In size and value. Both times I've been in there late afternoon it was empty so I hope they figure it out before people get the wrong impression. Lots of potential here 5 stars if they fixed...
