May 3rd 2018, I went back to my old workplace on Burnaby Mountain to visit my co-workers. We had a nice lunch at Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle House together.
Chef Hung is a Taiwanese Beef Noodle Restaurant. It’s famous for their signature noodle soup. It’s very tasty and authentic It has five locations in the Great Vancouver area. I always went to its first location Aberdeen Center in Richmond, BC long times ago. Last year, Chef Hung opened its fifth location at Simon Fraser University, which was very convenient to all students there. When It just opened, it was a huge lineup everyday. It has been opened about the year. It was getting better, but it’s still very busy. I think it’s because of the small environment.
My friends and I, four of us, got to the restaurant around 12:30 pm. Inside the restaurant was busy. But, we were lucky. There was only one four-seat table left. We were very fast gotta the table and began to take a look at the menu.
Two of my friends ordered Seasonal Vegetable with Noodle in the Beef soup, Me and another friend had award-winning beef shank, tendon & trip with noodle soup. We all choose the flat noodles for our noodle bowls. Besides noodles, We also ordered Cold Mixed Kelp to share. All the food came out the kitchen fast and fresh. The soup was very hot and tasty. I love my award-winning beef shank, tendon & trip with noodle soup. All the beef in my soup were super soft and had special flavors. The cold mixed kelp was one of my favorite dishes at Chef Hung, but it was a very small portion. It was cold with unique Chinese Style flavor: Sweet and Sour, which made me couldn’t stop eating it. I love its taste so much.
In summary, we had a nice experience eating...

When I tried to get my usual order I get at every chef hungs, the person behind the counter kept interrupting me and insisting I didn't know what I wanted and tried to change my order several times. Every time I said 'no I want [my order] please', he would interrupt and functionally yell over me condescendingly about how I didn't understand noodles or what I was ordering, and that he would change my order to something I would like, and was heavily implying it was because I wasn't Chinese that I couldn't possibly know what I was ordering. At first I kind of just laughed it off, and insisted I knew what I wanted but he kept going, raising his voice each time and I was kind of just in disbelief and kept trying to be patient and explain I am very familiar with what I was ordering. After about the 3rd time he interrupted me with his vaguely racist and agressive ranting I got upset and told him explicitly to give me my order, to which he interrupted me a final time by yelling over me going 'OK OK OK OK'. I seriously had to think for a second if this whole thing was a prank. Being upset I tried to call him out and he hit me again with the 'OK OK OK'.
Ive seen entitled customers before but Ive never been to a restaurant where the staff are the ones who go out of their way to be rude and condescending, so this was new for me. Literally felt like I was being rage baited and I took the bait. Funniest part is it was over ground pork noodles, wasn't even tripe or something else relatively unconventional in western food so I have no idea why he...
Read moreOur group arrived in the restaurant on a Sunday morning and there might have been just two other people there. It felt like there was only one waitress and two cooks. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed. Seemed like there was a large amount of takeout activity going on at the same time.
So it took some time for her to juggle in service for us among her other demands. I ordered the mango yogurt BOGO offer but unfortunately it did not come until long after we were finished our food.
I enjoyed my beef wrap, although it had little beef, I found the shredded cucumber refreshing and a nice change from what other restaurants serve. It was delicious. The premium beef shank noodle had a watery broth and the noodles weren’t chewy enough, and the beef was great but spare. I did love the cilantro, which was optional.
When the mango yogurt drink finally came, it was tasty but too sweet. She did listen to my request for less ice. Unfortunately I was too full to drink it so I took it home.
We would still return here,...
