EDIT: 5 stars to 4 stars Not sure if the baker has changed but I got the Bavarian cake again in December 2020 after I’d gotten it in December 2017, and the quality had definitely decreased. It wasn’t the Bavarian cake I had once loved, but it tasted like any other cream filled cake from a grocery store. The fruity flavour wasn’t there anymore and the cakes underlying flavour was also not there. Pretty disappointing. I would be willing to give it a one last try and hope for the best and the same flavour I had gotten 3 years ago. Keep in mind this was the same cake people had gotten seconds and thirds from 3 years ago (aka REALLY good) and in December 2020, we had leftovers for a smaller cake too.
————— DECEMBER 2017
I had never ordered from Amandine Bakery before but it came up as a search result for quality and quantity on Google. I’m not as adventurous with cake options especially when there’s a 40 person crowd to fill (who all have different tastes) and ESPECIALLY if it’s my own birthday party! However when I called and asked for their most popular cake, they recommended the Bavarian Fruit Cake. Now I love any cake with fruits (not fruitcake mind you!!) but not everyone does. So for parties I have always opted for a nice chocolate cake where people usually eat a slice and take home the rest. However, I had a good feeling about this cake so I ordered 12x16 for 40 people.
Once it arrived, the size was enormous for what they had described for 30-35 people. Basically I could have ordered a smaller size and fed the same amount of people. Also ...THE CAKE WAS TO DIE FOR! All my chocolate lovers were on their 3rd slice of the cake raving about how good it was and how the fruits were very fresh. I’m happy that the crowd loved it because I loved it as well! It’s a family run business but I know it could definitely give all the chains a good run for their money in terms of quality...
Read moreI had called on January 21st to order two custom cakes for my daughter’s birthday on February 2nd. One with blue rosettes for a Frozen cake for my daughter, and one blue with red trim for a Spider-Man cake for her best friend, simple enough for any baker. I had originally mentioned I would pick the cakes up at 1pm but had called back on January 26 to change the pick up time to 11 and add writing on the cakes they said that’s fine any time after 11 the cakes will be ready. February 2nd I get to the bakery at 12:15, when I get inside I’m told my cakes aren’t ready and they need another 10-15 minutes. I go back to my car for 10 minutes, go back inside and am told it’ll still be another 15 minutes. I’m now extremely frustrated as I told them I’d be there at 11 so the cakes should’ve been long done. The cashier brings out the first cake, the “Frozen” one. It is absolutely terrible looking, the icing was not rosettes, just blue lines with massive gaps, not at all what I ordered. I was also told I was going to pay $10 extra for the extra frosting which was not used. I ended up leaving as I didn’t have time to wait and it was clear they were rushing my order even though I made it well in advance.
I had ordered my son’s cake from Amandine in August, it was a trickier design and it turned out as expected, so I know I was not asking too much. I had planned to make amandine our go to for kids birthday cakes but will now not be going back. Sobeys saved the day for me that day and that’s now going to be my first...
Read moreMy recent experience at Amandine Bakery left much to be desired. Despite my anticipation for their renowned pastries, I was sorely disappointed by the lack of understanding and flexibility exhibited by their staff.
Upon arrival, I encountered unexpected traffic delays, which caused me to arrive just five minutes past their closing time. Despite my earnest apologies and explanation, the staff adamantly refused to serve me, insisting that they were closed for the day.
This rigid adherence to their closing time without any consideration for the circumstances reflects poorly on their customer service standards. It's disheartening to see a business prioritize strict policies over accommodating their patrons, especially when faced with unforeseen circumstances such as traffic congestion.
As a result of this experience, I left feeling frustrated and undervalued as a customer. While I understand the importance of adhering to operating hours, a bit of flexibility and empathy could have salvaged the situation and left a more positive impression. Unfortunately, Amandine Bakery's unwillingness to accommodate a minor delay has significantly tarnished my perception of their establishment. I am giving 1 star but they deserve 0 stars, I cant do 0 stars, I even told her that we are on the...
