Centre Street Japanese Hotpot is an oriental restaurant where raw ingredients are put into a pot of boiling broth. For those unfamiliar with hotpot. Hotpot is an oriental dish where the server brings you a pot of broth. The tables are equipped with individual stoves. The servers will then bring a plate of raw ingredients. These ingredients consist of vegetables, noodles or rice, raw meat (beef / lamb). Once the pot at the table boils, individuals can begin putting in their raw ingredients. You don't have to put all ingredients at once. Otherwise, many of ingredients will become overcooked. Once the ingredient is cooked as desired. Take it out and enjoy! Paired with the food is a self serve sauce station. Where individuals can make their own dipping sauce. Centre Street Japanese Hotpot does not serve all you can eat. This restaurant serves individual portions. Portions can either be regular or large. Individuals will order their broth, choice of meat and choice of noodles / rice. Afterwards everything will be served as described previously. The broth is quite good and the ingredients are tasty. Each hotpot comes with vegetables (lettuce/enoki mushrooms/others), shrimp, meat balls and a few other items. All ingredients will go into the pot and become flavored with the broth. I definitely recommend a dipping sauce as it gives all the food more flavor. The portion is decent, but could use a little more meat. The service is quick. So you won't be waiting too long for your food. The restaurant from the outside may seem small, but the inside is more spacious. The location can make parking a little difficult. There is a small parking lot, but is usually full. The price is reasonable, it is about average for a hotpot restaurant. I highly recommend trying Centre Street Japanese Hotpot. This is a great place to try hotpot for the first time or the 100th time. As it isn't all you can eat, people new to hotpot can enjoy it without spending too much.

The staff were nice and patiently explained to us how hot pot meal supposed to be set up and how to choose various ingredients. service was fast although it got slow when the restaurant became crowded. The food (ingredients and the stock) was amazing. The price was ok (it wasn't cheap nor expensive). My wife asked for kimchi stock and i asked for spicy stock. Both were good but i prefered the kimchi one. The only downside was that our toddler didn't like the food as it was too spicy for her (but not for us). The dessert (big pile of ice covered with mango pieces) was bad and expensive! I wish the restaurant had a better decoration. Note: the restaurant is hard to find because it's hidden in a very tight corner and it's name is not visible.

For hot pot this is one of my favorite places, particularly because everyone gets a small individualized soup base. While it's not the all you can eat style some people are used to, the selection of possible soup bases is rather large compared to most places. The premade selection of foods to cook in the soup is rather varied and some things change out as they become seasonal or not. You do get your choice of meat and noodle type though. Their other foods and bubble teas are also pretty good, but ultimately I would have to recommend the sukiyaki soup base for most people, and the spicy or curry soup base for those who like things a bit spicier.

The worst experience ever! Went there for a few time, their food quality goes from good to poor. The waitress has a huge attitude! We are wondering why there's a minimum expense requirement for each consumer and the response was "u should blame the people who came during special hour, shares one hotpot and sits forever"! Speaking with another girl about that unprofessional respond, she tries to explain about the rule, however, ignores the major reason of why I'm complaining, "unprofessional response of the first waitress which leads to an unpleasant dining experience", ask us about how the food taste. Seems she asked, so we told them honestly that the food quality has dropped, the meat sauce is more salty and the drinks are not up to standard. After awhile the cook came out and ask us what's wrong with the food. My friend told him the same thing, he ask us, do you know what the ingredients are? Do you even know how to cook? My friend gets upset, she said, you are the one who ask how the food taste, we simply respond to the question with our true thought why do you get angry. The cook said, I'm no angry, am I angry? I am smiling, didn't u see the smile on my face? and I would like to know that if you have ever cook before? I don't see how this is a professional response at all! They are looking for excuses on their poor customer service, downgraded food quality and the worst of all, the new cook acts as if he owns the restaurant, which we find out that he is a new hire who claims to have 8 years of cooking experience! I then request him to leave as we do not wish to speak with him anymore. We don't want to stay there anymore so we get up and make our way to the register to pay. The cook run out to the register counter when we are paying, just to yell at us to never go back again! The reason we complain is because we are not happy with how we get treated by the waitress and as a paying customer, And the situation got worse because we complained. I don't expect to be eating downgraded food yet being treated like we are an uneducated bunch. I don't expect to be treated like a VIP for a $18.99 meal, but at the same time, there's the basic line on customer service! If you can't accept pointers then don't ask! Worst experience, a nightmare! Will never visit this...

The name to this place is definitely disappointing as I was hoping for actual Japanese hot pot. The food was OK but seems like for the price you pay for a large all you get is basically all veggies. Its like eating a whole head of lettuce. For almost 20 dollar you can get a better bang for your buck at a Chinese hotpot place. The name to this place is far from Japanese as its owned by Chinese people that seems to know nothing about Japanese hot pot. The place was not even busy but yet they had no seafood available to order and it seems like almost everything we asked for they did not have. for 20 dollars you get a big bowl of lettuce and some other veggies. There were fish balls and a crab leg and a mussel that they gave you. I am guessing they had to save the seafood to be able to serve more customers. Also you get all you can drink tea and 2 meats of your choice. Funny thing was a friend wanted pork and they ran out of that as well. They claimed the meat store was closed but there are so many meat stores in Calgary. The service was poor and appetizers were poorly made. I would not recommend coming here to waste 20 dollars on so called Japanese hot pot. Its more like cheap quality...
