I spotted Banana Leaf while going to Memory Express one day and finally made the trip to try it.
We ordered the Satay Chicken Skewers, the Roti Canai, the Deep Fried Tofu with Garlic and Green Onion, the Wonton in Garlic and Chili Sauce, the Roti with Curry Beef Brisket, and the Beef Ball with Vermicelli in Soup.
The Satay Chicken Skewers were nicely cooked up. There was flavor, and the meat stayed moist. The peanut sauce was strong and complemented the chicken well.
The Roti Canai was the highlight of the night. The Roti was crispy, airy, and soft on the inside. It was this snack dish that motivated us to order the Roti with Curry Beef Brisket.
The Deep Fried Tofu with Garlic and Green Onion was very crispy and some of the best tecture that we have in town. The only thing that I wished was a touch more salt and spices.
The Wonton in Garlic and Chili Sauce was comfortable, and the spice level was noticeable. The dish ate a little heavy, but that's expected.
The Roti with Curry Beef Brisket came with a nice bowl of beef and potatoes along with a fried egg, toasted peanuts, and veggies. The beef brisket was flavorful and tender. I really liked the curry sauce. Again, like the other dish, it was oily but expected.
We got the Beef Ball with Vermicelli in Soup and found it surprisingly heavy with oil as well. I suppose that must be the style of cuisine. The noodles were very nicely cooked, and the beef balls had a nice elastic bite to them.
Overall, while we ate, the restaurant filled up quickly, and people were waiting. The meal was nice and...
Read moreGreat food, great service, great restaurant. We came after the lunch rush, but the restaurant was still full. It was definitely worth the short wait. They asked us to wait outside and called when the table was ready (very good). They inspected our Vaccine Passports, and everyone else that came in after (very good). They cleaned thoroughly between guests, and spaced the tables out really well. Thanks for that.
The meals came out very quickly. We had the Seafood Laksa and the Hainanese Chicken & Rice. Both were wonderful. The Laksa was spicy, rich and delicious, with big chunks of fish, squid, shrimp, fish balls, tofu. I am a big Laksa fan, and this one was awesome. Big dish too, could easily be shared by two people. The Hainanese Chicken was perfectly cooked, steaming and tender. Such a beautiful dish. Way too big for my wife, we took home half for dinner later.
Service was friendly and fast, the two young men that served us were terrific. The room is cute and spotlessly clean, prices are very good. We will be back to try the rest of the...
Read moreThis is a long overdue review. This restaurant has been our go-to Malaysian restaurant in town. We went back for a Saturday lunch two weeks ago when we were in the area. It is hidden in a tiny mall next to a small Asian supermarket.
We ordered the Seafood Curry Laksa, Hainanese Chicken Rice, and Roti with Curry Beef Brisket to share. Everything was tasty with lots of flavours. There are also some Taiwanese dishes on the menu such as Crispy Spices Salt Chicken Nuggets, Grounded Pork Sauce on Rice, etc., which we didn't get to try out this time. There is also a good variety of drinks and teas for everyone to choose from.
The restaurant only has a few tables so it gets filled up quickly. We went there after 1pm and it only had two empty tables. They are currently closed until February 17 and will reopen on February 18 so make sure to visit them on this date or after.
Overall, the food was delicious. Services was quick. Note that they only accept cash or debit card. Will continue...
