Edit (June 28, 2023): I changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. I ordered a 1/4 slab cake and 25 cupcakes for my son's 6th birthday. One cupcake was missing from the order. Say promptly went above and beyond to resolve the situation as I needed it right away and had no time to pick it up. Thank you, Say, for your extraordinary service and understanding. I am still in awe. And as always, cake and cupcakes were delicious. Many thanks, Say & Bliss team. ---------------‐----------------------------- Previous review:
I've always enjoyed Bliss Cupcakes and often order cakes from them for family birthday parties for the past 12 years. Ordering via email is always smooth and prompt. I've tried most of their flavours; the gluten free Red Velvet cupcake is really nice and my absolute favourite is their Bailey's cupcake they put out every March for St Patrick's. Their buttercream recipe is less sweet than other cupcake bakeries', which I prefer.
The reason why I removed a star is because the reception at their (now closed) Northmount location wasn't always welcoming for me, particularly from an older lady with lighter hair. I went in once to order cupcakes and I was told I had to wait so she could help those with pick up orders lined up at the till, even some who came in after me. So I thought that was just their procedure. The next time I went to pick up a cake order, I went to the till like I saw everyone else do before. She told me I had to wait while she serviced the walk in customers. Confusing, since pick up orders took precedence with her before, but ok. I waited, and more customers kept arriving. As she got to the last of them, I had to interrupt and say I just needed to pick up my pre-paid cake order. There's only so much waiting someone can do with no acknowledgement or courtesy.
Another time, I went to get the Bailey's cupcakes, which come in chocolate or vanilla. There was only 1 chocolate and 1 vanilla left, and she clarified that they were the last ones. I was debating whether to just grab those or order online to get 6 chocolate ones at a later date. She must have thought I was new to the planet because she tersely pointed out which one was very obviously the chocolate one and which was vanilla after telling me there was only 1 of each left. I was not impressed. Pretty insulting and condescending to assume that I can't tell the physical difference between the two flavours just because I was thinking about my options to myself.
These experiences with this employee are off-putting. Not sure why she felt the need to treat me like that on those occasions. However, there is a Philipino lady who works there and she is always polite, professional, and friendly, in person...
Read moreThe only reason they are not getting a one star is because they have a reputation for quality cupcakes and honesty you can't always get everything absolutely fresh and I did pick them up in the afternoon so they were a little dry... But that's not what this review is about. The review is about the lemon square I bought. Frankly I was shocked ...the only thing that made this a lemon square or close to one was the color ...it was yellow.... yeahhhhh..... I've had some flavorless lemon squares before but this one pretty well took the "cake" there was just the absolute minor background hint of lemon in the bar and aside from that it was nothing but a tasteless gelatinous mass with a nice crumbled base to sit on. If i I'm going to pay for an expensive piece of bakery Then I expect it to represent at least the flavor that it's supposed to be. The gelatinous mass was heavy and thick and almost flavorless. This was So disappointing as it is the only dessert I really look forward to, I find it's not uncommon that when small bakeries that are well known get bigger their quality and their flavor goes down I really hope that this is not the case here and that perhaps it was a mistake .I'll try again in...
Read moreI asked what does the Nanaimo Bar contains. The person answer "I don't know, because I don't make them" then I ask if she was the owner which she answer "yes". If you are an owner, how come you don't know what are you selling and what do they contain? Not only that, other family came in and asked if they could use the bathroom, which the owner then looks at another worker and then says to the family with kids "sorry but he is leaving and I'm by myself, so I can' take you" again...if you are an owner, couldn't you ask your worker to take the mother and child to the bathroom? The service was not good, no information about their products, not even have signs saying it could have nuts (the family also asked if it had been in contact with nuts, and the owner said "yes"). Sorry but they need to work out more on the service and that's on the...
