I remember when Kilkenny used to be good. It was a destination. I'd drive across town to meet my friends there. Good food, good service. Now, not so much. The food is okay. They got rid of my Irish pub favourites and replaced them with generic pizza / pasta / burger stuff you get anywhere. As for service, they are chronically under-staffed. If you go for Sunday brunch, the food is good, and the place is busy, but most of the time I get seated at a table with no silverware and it takes 10-15 minutes to get a drink order and a fork - and even then I usually have to flag someone down. Getting another drink is nearly impossible unless you get up and go to the bar or try to find your server.
I keep trying Kilkenny, thinking the last few times were just one-off bad experiences, but I'm consistently disappointed. Maybe I've just been spoiled by all the good restaurants and pubs in Calgary that offer great service. Great service like, getting seated at a table that is clean and well-provisioned, getting a drink order quickly, getting free soft drink refills, a steak cooked properly to order, having the server come around to make sure everything is okay - the stuff that used to be standard. Those things happen only rarely and randomly at Kilkenny.
Last time I was at Kilkenny, the server took my "cran-soda / no ice" order and came back with an icy soda with almost no cran. She took my food order, and that was the last I saw of her. (Someone delivered my food in a reasonable amount of time and it was okay.) I had to go to the bar to get the drink fixed, and the bartender seemed annoyed by my request.
When I moved to Brentwood a year ago, I looked forward to being within walking distance of a great place that I used to drive to. Now I get in my car, drive past Kilkenny, and go somewhere good.

Read moreIt’s our first time trying this place out. The food was great and the vibe was cozy. It’s a pretty big place with lots of people and serving takes some time. When we we’re ordering food, the tablet was not responding very well so we patiently wait for it to work and the server apologized for it. And it’s not a problem until the server, Asha, took one of our orders wrong because we must have talked too fast for her to input them in the tablet. We’re not really familiar with the drinks so we just got a monday special drink called moscow mule for $6.50. On the poster, it says to pick a flavour so my Aunt asked for a “raspberry moscow mule” and Asha said “ok”. When we got our bill, we were charged with a “razzberry mojito” for $12.99. Then, we asked Asha why are we charged with a mojito when we ordered a moscow mule. And her first response was, “But you already drink it so regardless you have to pay for it”. She said it in a very rude way that it feels like she wants to pick a fight. Then, my Aunt just said okay we’ll pay for it and we left the pub. We wanted to talk to the manager about Asha’s rudeness but it’s hailing and we were concerned about our car so we rushed out. She didn’t even apologize for taking the wrong order. She just went ahead at blaming us for drinking what she served us. Unfortunately, not everyone is well-versed with alcohol and we didn’t know that was mojito. The very reason we ordered that moscow mule was to try it and know what the hell does it taste like. PS, she didn’t repeat our orders nor did she said what thr name of the drink was when handing it out. This complain is for Asha’s rudeness and how we wish it wouldn’t be like that in the future because we surely will be back...
Read moreUsed to be 5 star worthy but the staff has been really slacking since around summer time. It's honestly such a shame that the service has gotten bad. But I still love this place regardless because of the food. This was my go-to pub any time I was hungry before the service got kinda slow. I am not impressed with typical pub food, but I love eating it at this place!! I am never disappointed with the food, and the odd time I am, they take it off the bill or re-make it to the standard quality. The specials here are honestly great. Sunday and Wednesday are burger specials and seriously unbeatable. A gourmet burger for $11 or $7 dollars respectively? Unheard of. Mondays are wings (hit or miss on the quality to be honest) and Fridays are fish and chips (i think). When you order a burger a fries, the burger is a great size and quality, and the fries are delicious plus they give you a really good amount. I pick this place 10000000 times over Jamesons just down the road. The quality and quantity of food here is so worth it. If you get wings or chicken fingers, get buffalo blue cheese sauce haha. I love the desserts here. The ice cream mud pie cake thingy is my fave haha. Decent price and great size! The apple pie is pretty good as well but a little more tangy than I prefer. The place is huge with lots of TVs for sports and a dim light. Great atmosphere. Always a place to park too. Honestly, I wish I could give it 5 star but the service has just been not that great. However, there are three girls in particular that are really good and I try to sit in their sections. Will find out names...
