Cinnamon Indian Cuisine & Bar — Restaurant in Calgary

I had a very disappointing experience here. My daughter has severe egg and chicken allergies, I made sure to clearly inform the staff before placing my order, and I was reassured that they would take proper precautions. However, when the meal arrived, it was clear that the allergy guidelines were either ignored or not understood.

I had ordered masala fries for my daughter, which were brought with mayonnaise based sauce. I checked it was just regular mayonnaise based, not vegetarian/vegan option. I should have left the restaurant at that point, when they couldn’t even understand this basic thing that any type of ingredients you are going to use for the recipe have to be allergen free as well. But they assured that the fries did not had any allergens as I mentioned before. I let my daughter eat fries, since the sauce was in a separate container. As soon as my daughter had one bite, she started feeling unwell. Soon after that she started having allergic reaction and throwing up. I had specifically asked if cross-contamination would be an issue, and the server confidently assured me it wouldn’t be, but obviously either there was cross contamination while cooking or mishandling of food.

I understand that mistakes can happen, but when it comes to allergies, it’s crucial that restaurants take extra care. This is a health issue, not just a minor inconvenience. Thankfully my daughter doesn’t has an anaphylactic allergy but it is still very severe to cause her enough medical distress that if not treated can lead to life threatening reaction. The buffet has been elevated to the next level as they now have 4 to 5 veg appetizers from previous 2 to 3, 6 to 7 veg entrees from previous 3 to 4 and 4 to 5 desserts from previous 1 to 2.

The best part is they have a chaat station where you can make your own bhel puri, pani puri or papdi chaat. They also now have dhokla and different types of pickles.

Overall, the service has continued to be impeccable especially with the experience we had today with Manveer's professionalism. She took the effort to ask my son whether he liked the food as the main reason of visiting Cinnamon for last few years is because of his fondness for the way food is prepared with creativity and passion. We have been to Cinnamon in Calgary N.E. three times from Apr 9th to 13th as our son enjoys the food apart from being a regular there over the years. Their buffet spread is amazing with a lot of selections for appetizers, entrees and desserts.

The best part of our experience all 3 times we visited was an impeccable service provided by Rishman, our server. She knew what my son wanted in terms of how he prefers to drink his water and favorite garlic naan. She also kept checking in multiple times on whether we require anything else and appreciated her presence as it was better than other restaurants we have visited for buffets or even when ordering a la carte.

We recently visited this amazing Indian restaurant for lunch to try their scrumptious Indian delicacies.

We tried a variety of appetizers, main course and drinks:

Summer special drinks: Daiquiri: A blend of white rum, lime juice & mango purée, this drink will charge you up with the sweet mango flavours. Cool Cucumber: Cucumber with elderflower & lime juice. This drink is perfect to beat the scorching heat this summer.

Appetizers: Paneer tikka sizzler: perfectly tandoori grilled tangy paneer with delicious flavours. Tandoori JHEENGA sizzler: They are the only ones having perfectly grilled prawns marinated with the perfect spices. Pani puri shots: Their presentation was so cute. Crispy pani puri served with mango, tamarind and mint flavoured waters in shot glasses. Vada Pav: The Pav bun was so soft with a perfect mix of spices. Chilly honey garlic chicken: Chicken strips dipped in special honey garlic sauce. So flavourful & tasty.

Main Course: Maharajas thali: It came with Shahi Paneer, Dal makhani, mango lassi, butter chicken, goat Rogan josh, Malabar fish curry, biryani rice, butter naan, chicken tikka, salad and raita. Scrumptious, flavourful and perfect to fill up two people.

They also have a separate private seating area to organize small parties & get together.
