Best authentic Mexican Tacos in Calgary! I discovered this gem back in Spring of 2022 when I lived in Highland Park, just East of 4th Street NW. It was walking distance which was nice and convenient. I wished I discovered it the summer prior when I first moved there. They close early for me so I always had to make sure I went at least 30 minutes before they closed or call to order before picking it up because there was often a line up before they closed. It used to be called Mikey’s Taco Shop back then. The owner was always welcoming, friendly and kind. The decor makes it feel even more authentic as if you’re walking into Mexico. Haha. I love Mexico! Anyway, back to the review here, my point is this is a restaurant everyone needs to experience and try out! A Must-Go to place! It’s local, independent/family owned. So you know it’s the best! Totally feels like you’re in Mexico! And the taco’s are very delicious! They have a huge variety of choices including vegan like mushrooms, eggplant and vegetables! I think on Tuesday’s they had a special where you got 3 tacos of your choice (mix/match) for 9 or 10$ which was a good deal post covid-19. I since moved out of province and that year was my favourite year whilst living in Calgary, out of the 16 years I lived there. I just love that neighbourhood and taco shop. It’s close to so many parks and amazing...

Mixed review here... I ordered the XL Beef Burrito for myself, and it was absolutely fantastic. Legit, one of the best Burritos I've put in my face hole. The Rice was perfect, fluffy, and filling, the beef was tasty; and it was just the right amount of juicy. Perfect burrito, and a HUGE portion.
I ordered my friend the Quesadilla...and it was good at the start, but the worst case scenario happened, and this is something I noticed while I was there, but didn't mention...both of the gentleman at this location have beards, but weren't wearing beard nets (Face hairnets?) I don't know what they're called, and as she bit into a beautiful piece of Quesedilla...there it was, the dark and curly meal Ruiner.
I get it, it happens, as a bearded man myself its something I need to worry about, but this can be avoided with the basic but ugly beard net.
While this didn't affect my visit in any way either, there was also just a random lady sitting in the back, in Pajama pants? I mean, maybe its a family restaurant or something but I feel like when you're a somewhat trendy little taco shop, that might not be the best look. I also just really hate Pajama pants in public, so no stars...
Read moreToday, my wife and I were hungry and craving something street-food-adjacent. After a little Googling, we discovered this charming little hole-in-the-wall not far from our home, and decided we'd go try it out - and damn, are we ever glad we did!
We walked in the door and barely had a moment to take in the vibrant decor, cheerful music and overall delightful atmosphere before we were enthusiastically welcomed by the proprietor of the restaurant, a refreshingly friendly man who helped us navigate the menu and promptly prepared for us some of the best mexican food I've ever had!
I went with a beef burrito, which I ordered XL because I foolishly believed that Mikey's offered the same diminutive portion sizes that similar establishments often to, and I was surprised to receive a MASSIVE (and heavy!) burrito, packed with juicy spiced beef, seasoned rice, guacamole, and more - and more of it than I could eat! It was beautiful, I wish I would have taken a picture before tearing into it.
I already can't wait to go back and explore the rest of the menu, I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. Took them one meal to make a fan out of me! If you're looking for a meal that's both filling and delicious, but also surprisingly affordable, then Mikey's Taco Shop is the...
