Don’t let the nondescript and humble outside appearance of this restaurant fool you as they serve the most delicious Chinese food in Calgary.
I have been coming here for over 20 years now and I have yet to be disappointed.
The servings are generous and pricing very reasonable but most of all, the food is just that good! I don’t know how else to describe the food here but I just love this place so much. The service has always been very welcoming and so personal even though the lone server is always busy tending to the customers and answering the phone at the same time.
The last time we dined in, we had our usual must-eats: the stinky and pungent and putrid but oh sooooo good Dried Fish and Chicken Fried Rice, our favourite Crispy Cantonese Seafood and Meat Chow Mien, the ever- present-every-time-we-eat-here nuclear Spicy Steamed Chicken and to change it up a little, we ordered something new - Salt and Pepper Pork Ribs. It was good but I like the Salt and Pepper Pork Chops better.
My other favourites are: Salt and Pepper Squid or Salt and Pepper Seafood, Singapore Noodles, Fried Rice Noodles in Chef Special Sauce, Satay Beef Shanghai Noodles, Fried Tofu in Chef Special Sauce, Ginger Beef and the Special Fried Rice. They have the best fried rice in town for sure - smoky and so flavourful.
When you’re dining in or ordering for a few people, always request the family size version of their dishes for a few dollars more.
I cannot wait to dine in once again as I am missing this...

It's a fitting space for what this restaurant wants to be. Service is good. You get a pot of tea that goes nicely with the food.
They maintain a menu that provides a good variety of dishes while keeping the number of choices reasonable. That's a great sign because it means that they did consider whether the dishes are good enough to make it to the menu. Often you see menus with overwhelming amounts of dishes to choose from, and you wonder if any of them is good. Fat Kee doesn't have this issue. It's a thoughtful menu that you give you.
The fried rice is great. It's flavoable, with each individual rice grain fried right, separated from one another. The shredded pork fried noodles is good too. The noodles are deep fried, which is the Cantonese way of making this dish.
For me, the wonton is the highlight. The wrapper is smooth, with good thickness. The filling is rich and flavoable. The soup is the traditional Cantonese flavor. You can taste the dried fish aroma in the soup.

Read moreFirst time to the restaurant, not familiar with menu. Asked the waitress for assistance, waitress was pleasant. We ordered the dinner special, fried chicken rice + sweet and sour chicken, pork ginger beef. The sweet sour chicken and pork was dry, not very good. I asked for the bill for 2. The waitress indicated that they did not have a Wifi credit card machine and we would need to go to the back to pay at the stationary machine. She punched in the amount of the bill and then asked me to punch in the tip, I indicated that I did not wish to leave a tip...she asked did I not enjoy the food, I said no, just do not leave tips because I was not looking for a confrontation. The waitress demeanor had changed immediately to be negative. We had left and said Goodnight and did not get a reply. I will not go again in the future...the food at the mall food courts was better then at this location. And I am not of...
