Went to Samosa House last night with a friend — and honestly, it was a mixed experience.
We stood at the entrance for quite a while with no one at the front desk to greet or host us. We even asked two staff members if we needed a reservation — they said no and told us someone would come help us shortly, but nobody did. We were left hanging awkwardly for quite some time. It really felt like we were invisible.
Thankfully, one male staff member (wish I got his name!) finally stepped in and made us feel welcome. Big shout-out to him — he was the only highlight in terms of service.
As for the food, we ordered butter chicken gravy with tandoori chicken stuffed naan. The taste was pretty good! However, they definitely went heaavy on the food coloring or flour — I eat with my hands (Indian style 😄), and the next morning, my fingers were still orange. That was kind of funny, but also shows how much was added!!!
Overalll, food was decent, but the service really needs improvement. I understand it was a busy time, but guests shouldn't feel...
Read moreI recently visited this incredible Iraqi restaurant in Calgary, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish! The highlight of my meal was their falafel and donair, which were absolutely out of this world.
The falafel was crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and soft on the inside—probably the best I’ve ever had. It was paired with fresh veggies and a tangy, flavorful amba sauce that tied everything together beautifully. The donair was equally amazing, with tender, juicy meat wrapped in warm, fresh bread it was so delicious. Every bite was bursting with flavor!
The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was cozy yet vibrant, making it a great spot for a casual meal or out with friends.
If you’re in Calgary and looking for authentic Iraqi flavors, this place is a must-visit. Their falafel and donair alone are worth the trip, but the entire menu looks incredible. I’ll definitely be back to try more! Five stars, no question!
Thank you so...
Read moreI was honestly surprised by the quality and taste of the food at Samoon - my mom is visiting us in Calgary and wanted to go to an Iraqi bakery/shop so we decided on samoon - we ordered zataar and samoons and some falafel sandwiches. I was expecting it to be of similar taste and quality as other Arabic / Mediterranean restaurants in Calgary - but it was much much better than that. The zataar bread is baked fresh in store, and the texture and softness of the manakish is unlike anything I’ve ever had (in a very good way). Also their falafels have amba (pickled mango) mixed in which again was a surprising twist on such a staple. The falafels were nice and moist as well. It’s really impressive that they are able to bake and make all this stuff on site - in my opinion this makes a big difference in...
