Three items, three very mixed feelings.
The goat curry was ridiculously over peppered. Not spicey hot, but had so much pepper flavor that it was like emptying a bucket of black pepper in the dish. More importantly, the catfish soup was ridiculously expensive at $14.99 (from orginally 8.99 from only a few months ago) for a single bowl serving with a small chunk of fish and a bland broth. The third item, a "soup" though more like a stew was ok, but nothing to write home about.
I had made my order 3 hrs in advance as their menu says to call for some dishes 2 hours in advance. When I arrived, no one had my order ready, and when the server there had to call for help to find out what my order was from another server, the full order was still gotten wrong (there was a fourth item, but when I saw the portion size of the soup, not to mention the whole issue with my order, and also that now none of the food was being served and prepared fresh but appeared to have been made hours ago and served cafeteria style, I decided against it. I honestly felt seriously underwhelmed and even cheated by then).
Then, I was overcharged by $6 only to find out the 2 different soup prices (50% price rise in only 6 months?!?) between their paper menu and their wall menu. I ended up paying a ridiculous $61 for takeout for an overspiced curry, an ok stew and a way overpriced underwhelming single bowl of fish soup. I still feel like I was ripped off for the soup.
I'm deliberately not giving a lower star rating, though I'm very much inclined to. It's not often I'm actually angry at a take out restaurant , but I think they deserve a chance to fix their service, pricing and food quality issues. They're pretty new apparently, and opened just before the COVID-19 pandemic. It's a rough time to be operating a restaurant.
IF they're still around by August 2021, I might give them another shot and wish them luck. Until then, there's cheaper and better afro-carribean restaurants...

Driving through a heavy rainstorm to this establishment was absolutely worth it and I would do it again.
After trying some of their wonderful food at the Crossroads market, I was informed that Yenny Delights had a separate restaurant else where in the city and had to see it for myself.
Needless to say, it was well worth the drive. The staff was not only helpful but wonderful to talk to, and the food speaks for itself.
After ordering large servings of two different kinds of rice, fried plantain, jerk chicken, and several of their meat patties, I can see why this place has been recommended to me several times.
The Jerk Chicken literally slid off the bone at the slightest glance and was some of the most flavourful chicken I'd ever had. Both the Coconut and Jollof rice dishes made for perfect flavorful companions to the chicken, and the plantains were cooked to perfection with a wonderful sweetness and texture.
But the real reason I came in that day was for the beef patties and let me tell you, some of the best patties I ever had. These delicious little pockets come bursting with wonderful beef and spice flavors all wrapped in a savory pastry. I was then told that these patties were made fresh by hand daily. My regret is that I didn't order more.
All in all, Yenny Delights has become one of my favorite small restaurants in town. The friendly staff and the delicious food are worth the visit. I heartily recommend this establishment to anybody who loves flavourful Afro Caribbean food and will be introducing my own friends and family to this place.
Yenny Delights is a must try. And the food alone deserves a 5...
Read moreIt was a terrible food experience meets bad attitude from the lady there which I won’t want to believe is the owner. We ordered Amala and ofada rice sauce, the sauce tasted like it’s been in the fridge for weeks and the gbegiri and ewedu should never have been served to a customer. In total I paid C$77 and the food was almost not edible. I told the lady when all she was concerned about was me paying that she couldn’t even ask how was the food being a first time customer and there was nothing she didn’t call me. I will never visit again and will never recommend even to my worst enemy. It’s ok for you to deny and lie, check all the places I’ve been to as a restaurant and read all my reviews, your restaurant is actually the first I will visit that I’ve given 1 star cos the food was bad and I had to go to another restaurant that same day to eat Amala 360 grill and lounge and the food was fantastic. Take your time to see the review I gave them in my profile. Oh and I’m not a food critic, I was in Calgary for tourism, I live in Edmonton so get your...
