Feast of India — Restaurant in Calgary

This used to be one of my favorite Indian buffets in the city, but they were sold in summer 2024 so the restaurant is under new management. This was my first time trying it out.

The current buffet price is $21 which is reasonable. I would rate the overall buffet to be mediocre.

I've never experienced this at an Indian Buffet so not sure what the reasoning is, but the various curry dishes (beef Vindaloo, butter chicken, Dahl) were all on the watery side. As I was thinking about that, I heard the exact same comment from the table beside me. When you normally finish your plate, you'll see sauce left over on your plate. In this case, what was left over more clearly resembled water in terms of color and thickness. The food lacked the richness of flavors (from spices) you would typically expect in Indian food from the spices. There wasn't a lot of meat in the beef vindaloo, just a ton of sauce, and the beef that was there seemed a bit watery rather than saucy when I bit into it leading me to wonder if maybe the beef is frozen, hence contributing to the wateriness of the curry.

Then when we paid (and this is a personal petpeve of mine) the machine provides the following tip options 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, which is on the high side, especially for a buffet, and especially considering the lack of service that so many people have commented here and which I can attest to (but won't complain about because really, it's a buffet how much service do you really need. In my case none of my plates were ever cleared).

As a fan of Indian food would I come back, maybe if I had a craving for a lunch time takeout box. Would I come back for the buffet or suggest coming here with co-workers, probably not.

@ the owners if you read this, I leave this review to provide constructive criticism, especially since you've only taken it over for a few months. Using less spices, watering down your dishes, leaving high default tip options, these are all things that will help you save money in the short-term but will cost your business longer term due to lack of repeat customers. We were 3 adults and one kid went to lunch buffet on my wife birtday. After looking at the menu my wife and my cousin decided to not to go with buffet as the vegeterian options are very limited and the food doesnt look appetizing. So I went with the buffet and they have one starter in veg and that was damm cold pakoda. They had overall 3 veg curries and rotis, the curries tasted awful and worst than the readymade packed ones. Speaking about the alacarte my wife and cousin ordered veg noodles and egg fried rice, trust me thats the worst food we ever had, we just had 2-3 spoons and left the food there. We told the employee there that the food is not good, she didnt even care to tell her boss about customer feedback. We decided to leave the place in 10 mins and went to the billing and they charged us 47$ and didnt care about the food we left on the table. I would highly recomment people not to try this place! This is out of frustation how my wife’s biryday lunch became a disaster.

I recently hosted a party at Feast of India and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. From the moment we started planning, the staff was incredibly helpful, responsive, and accommodating. They offered a great selection of menus to choose from, and were willing to tailor some dishes based on our guests’ dietary preferences like we are vegetarian.

On the day of the event, everything was perfectly organized. The decor matched the theme. the ambiance was warm and festive, and the seating arrangement was comfortable for everyone( 60 ppl) The service staff was attentive, professional, and friendly throughout the evening, making sure all guests were well taken care of.

The food was definitely the highlight—beautifully presented, served hot, and absolutely delicious. Many of our guests complimented the variety and quality.
