Gong Cha Shawnessy - Bubble Tea — Restaurant in Calgary

We were so glad when a bubble tea shop like this opened up near to us, and this place does not disappoint. If I could give it 6 stars out of 5, I would. By now we have brought our entire family here on multiple occasions. My wife and I have liked basically every drink we've tried, and the kids usually choose the snack options, like the bubble waffles, or the new croffles. (The croffles are a big hit with all of us, I would recommend to anyone to try them- croissant type mixture done in a waffle iron, and it's very tasty). Importantly, our orders tend to be complicated, with special requests, sweetness or ice alterations, etc. And everything has come out perfect, every time, 100.0%.

The owners and employees are friendly, good people. This is obvious from the moment you enter the place. I think you can often tell what kind of environment is created by the owners and managers very easily by watching the attitudes of the employees. Are they happy there or are they feeling under stress from a situation they're not entirely enjoying, and the pressure of trying to please someone that is difficult to please? Everyone here is happy and friendly all the time, which tells you everything you need to know.

I have been ordering at gong cha for years and have always been pleased. It was my first time ordering at this location and I was quite disappointed. I ordered the milk foam strawberry smoothie with almond jelly but the drink I got did not have a drop of milk foam in it. Second, I got the mango green tea with coconut jelly, less ice and extra sugar (130%) but it was so bland that it tasted just like water with barely any flavour and just a slight sweetness coming from the jelly.
