I know when they first opened, my sister had such a terrible experience and told us not to come here. She went in at 12 pm with her family when it opened at 11 30 am. And they all ordered Jjajangmyeon which is just the classic. They said it would take 1 hour because it was all sold out and they had to make it fresh. She was so confused. Her family were the only ones in the restaurant. But, my brother tried a few months after they opened and said it was okay. So we did a take out order. We called and they said it would take 20 minutes. So I made sure to arrive exactly after 20 minutes. They said the order wasn't ready and that I had to wait. I waited another 20 minutes at the restaurant for my pick up order and the restaurant wasn't busy. It was frustrating because I had kids in the car waiting. The food tasted good. The ttangsuyuk (fried beef) was tasty but it was 85% batter and 15% meat. The price was very expensive. Especially since they don't have a combo price which most Jjajangmyeon places do.

A tell tale sign that a restaurant is good and authentic is when there's a line up at the door before the restaurant even opens and the majority of the patrons dining were Korean as well. Service was friendly and attentive, washrooms were clean and there's even free wifi. I ordered the jjampong bap and got some jjajang sauce on the side. The jjampong spice level could be adjusted and provided the perfect hearty broth. The seafood was cooked perfectly and wasn't super chewy like some other restaurants I've been to.The jjajang sauce was delicious as well with a perfect meat to veggie ratio without being too sweet. Hands down the best Korean/Chinese restaurant in Calgary. Will definitely be running back!

Everything from the food to the service was to the point.

The black bean noodles here (Jjawang Jjajangmyun) have finer ground pork and no overcooked onion that add flavor. Black bean noodles in typical Korean-Chinese restaurants can be salty sometimes, but Jjawang's is just full of flavor. I suspect they just hit the right mix of ingredients. You will want to add more noodles (you can get a "large" portion at an extra cost) or mix the sauce with rice!

The spicy soup (Jjampong) has savory veggie broth. I ordered Jjampong Bap - Seafood (Jjanmpoing with seafood + sticky rice) to taste the broth. I liked that they did not add too much seafood but focused just on hitting the right flavor of the broth. It has chicken/seafood/veggie broth that is quite unique to Korean-Chinese fusion and a must to try.

The signature shrimp was okay, but you will be happy with the big/chunky shrimp (maybe a tiger shrimp?). It comes with some sort of flake of a Korean snack that looks like a crispy onion. There are better menus than this one, but it is unique enough to try.

Last but not least, I have to mention the service and overall cleanliness of the restaurant. A concern someone might have for typical Korean-Chinese restaurants is the cleanliness of the restaurant and the kitchen (sticky table/floor). The restaurant is so well kept, and you will never see any sign of fat or starch residue on the table or floor. You can't smell any broth or sauce, probably because they have such a nice vent system. The tea, as well as onion and all ingredients of vegetables, are freshly served. The restroom is spotlessly clean, and you do not have to touch most of the restroom appliances. The only thing you have to touch is the lever of the toilet to flush the water. Then you can open the door and use the sanitizer placed right outside the restroom to keep your hands clean. This aspect puts Jjawang a mile ahead of other Korean-Chinese restaurants that may deliver their food. You will want to dine in here again and again.

And for everybody who enjoys more traditional Chinese food. Jjawang kindly says they are Korean-Chinese "fusion," which saves us from getting confused with a traditional...
