Karibu Grill & Lounge — Restaurant in Calgary

Had lower than sub-par service, confronted them about the poor service and waitress stormed off and was rude.

Upon entering we ordered Waters & tea, the waters came. we ordered our food after 15 minutes had to remind the server about the Tea, requested sugar and milk , the tea was served without milk and was too late to choose a different type of tea that didn't need milk.

The sugar was unsanitary, it was served with a plastic spoon, Tea was not served with spoon or stir stick so had to use the spoon from the sugar to stir the tea and dip again into sugar for the next person to do it again. Ask for more hot water for the tea, the server brought the hot water but dumped the tea out.

The food took 45 minutes to come out and the three meals did not come out at the same time so some of our guests were watching each other eat, we had an addition to our table and her food also took 45 minutes, and another table was served prior to her even though she ordered 15 minutes prior to them. Food was served on unsanitary cutting board that had cracks it was not a solid wood block, there was no wax paper between the food and wooden cutting board, happy plates were not served so we ate off our tea saucers because we were not given appie plates.

The server did not come to check on us after the meal was served had to flag her down to ask for hot sauce and it came at the end of the meal. Napkins were not served with Cutlery and when we requested napkins we each got one napkin when we had to eat with our fingers because of how the food was plated. The server's name was Mercy she was very cold, rude, absent and had no Pride to her job.

Eat here if you want to feel unvalued and unattended.

I have ordered takeout twice here in the last two months and have not been disappointed. The first time I ordered the Grilled Tilapia Fish. It was a whole fish perfectly marinated and came with onions and a hot chutney. Let me tell you the chutney is hot but once you have it, it is irresistible. The fish was well cooked and tasted excellent. Last week we ordered the Grilled Whole Chicken. This also came with the onions and chutney. Karibu Grill is a hidden African gem in the NE. Was there on a friday night. Horrible service, food took forever, not a fan of eating off a dollerama cutting board. Cold staff, bathroom was dirty. Had to lift hand and hail the server multiple times for service. Other tables where served ahead of us. Would not recommend for a date. Maybe bring a enemy, but not...
