I visit this Monogram often because the coffee is consistently good and the service is also good. I felt compelled to write this review because as many of us have navigated COVID itās led to a lot of individual challenges and also significant challenges for small businesses. On the individual side, I recently was laid off and Iāve met one of the great team members at Monogram, Jess, at events sheād been at with my previous employer. When I walked in today, she of course greeted me by my name as she always does, and asked how Iām doing. She mentioned a few of my former colleagues mentioned to her I was laid off so she said, hey, I know youāre going through a lot, I would love to buy your coffee for you today, which really touched me.
In observing those coming into the coffee shop today while I was there, I noted how personal and warm the place feels, in spite of what Iām sure has been a challenging time for the coffee shop as it has for any small business. For that reason and the fact the coffee is consistently outstanding, itās a five star place and you should visit it if you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCustomer service was questionable yesterday. The girl working the till was rude when asked questions about the drinks. When the barista finished making my drink, my boyfriend asked about his (black coffee) as his thermos was still on the counter. They were busy, but serving drinks to people who had ordered after us. He picked up his cup to ask the barista, the till girl overheard and grabbed his cup saying "I heard you, black coffee". It took her 15 seconds to fill it from a carafe (apparently she'd just forgotten about it), then she handed it to him without a word. Trying to end on a good note, he wished her a good day - she responded more positively to this, which made us just think she is young/inexperienced/lets stress get to her too deeply. Hopefully it was a one-off, or the managers give staff feedback on customer relations. Not enough to turn us off going back, but definitely a strange interaction. Cute little shop, but also quite cold (everyone inside kept their coats on, it was -25*C outside). They were happy to put drinks in our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited this cafe as a recommendation from a co-worker, and happen to be passing by the area. The place is small (the wall in the middle of the cafe made it seem less open since it sections off one part of the seating area from the other), but had an uncluttered minimalist style, from the decor to the furniture (wooden tables, chairs, and benches). A small nitpick for me was that there were no soft comfy armchairs that you see in some cafes that you can plop down on. The staff were friendly and helpful in deciding which blend to pick for my coffee. The labels on their coffee bean bags are very informative, for example they clearly show the origin of the bean and if it is washed or unwashed process. Their pour over coffee was delicious, not too acidic. Aside from the small and a lack of an open concept layout of the cafe, I enjoyed my visit as the coffee and the service was great. I would visit again if I happen to be passing through its...
