We spotted Mr. Lu Japanese Street Food, while heading home one night and finally had the opportunity to eat here.
It was busy and basically a 2-person show. The guy working the front never stopped moving the whole time we dined in. He's really hardworking!
We got the Personal Hot Pot as they were famous for that. We picked the Tonkotsu Soup Base with Seafood and Beef. It took a while to arrive, arriving later than all the other dishes. Once it was placed down, we were rewarded with the sizzling aroma of deliciousness. The broth was light and flavorful. It was not intense and just enough to provide a wholesome experience. The beef was plentiful, and the variety of seafood was nice. This is the star dish of the restaurant and a must-order if you come here.
We ordered the Spicy Roll Combo, which consisted of a Dynamite Roll, Salmon Roll, and Tuna Roll slathered in spicy mayo. They were decently well-made and fresh. We were happy with the sushi.
We also ordered the Chicken Karrage and the Tempura Shrimps. Both were fresh fried and not oily. The kids loved them, and they were better than most of the past places that I have had them.
The other big factor for Mr. Lu Japanese Street Food is their late night opening. If I'm coming home late from a trip, I would definitely come here.
Bonus: the Happy Hour Bento Box looks like...
Read moreThe boys and I came here for lunch on a Tuesday(contrary to the hours listed on Yelp, they are open on Tuesdays). The interior of the restaurant has seen better days and they will be undergoing a major renovation from September 21st to 2025. The owner, Jay, was pleasant and attentive. He brought us a plate of complimentary spring rolls with sweet chili sauce. They were piping hot and super crunchy! Our family ordered three personal hot pots to warm us up on a cool autumn afternoon: spicy miso soup with lamb; Tom Yum soup with seafood; kimchi soup with beef. Our soups arrived in a timely fashion on top of individual burners (this was my first time seeing pink gel used as fuel) and they were intensely flavourful. My lamb was tender and the fish cakes, crab sticks, tofu, enoki/brown mushrooms, suey choy, and konjac vermicelli were deliciously satisfying and comforting. As usual, the boys and I had a taste of all three soup bases, and we decided that we liked them all! Just one thing of note: the soup tends to thicken halfway through your meal, so you might need to add a bit of hot water. We will...
Read moreVery disappointing. We did pick up/ take out. If you want grocery store style sushi at twice the price this is the place for you. The lady at the front was super friendly, and the tempura shrimp was good, starter was ok but it ended there. The rolls we're tasteless and what taste there was had a flavour of butter. Not sure why? We ordered; Miso Soup (ok - did have a fair portion of seaweed and tofu) Tempura Shrimp (sauce was good) Stampede Roll (tasteless and small) Hot Night Roll (supposed to be spicy mayo but again tasted bland, was missing ingredients and did not look look like the picture on their menu). Red Dragon Roll (Tasted bland, was missing ingredients and did not look look like the picture on their menu).
So usually the saviour to bland sushi is soya sauce, wasabi and ginger. However, the wasabi was a Forrest green and salty and the ginger was some yellow mush that we didn't want to open the package.
After our family tasted each roll price all of us quit eating from loss...
