It was our first time visiting Hana Sushi and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! I think I found my new favorite sushi restaurant in the city! I was looking for a sushi restaurant that is comparable to that of Vancouver's and I'm happy to have stumbled upon this place. I have given it 5 stars based on the criteria below.

Location: This restaurant is in Mission which is still close to the busy 17th avenue but isn't on the busier side of it which is always a plus! Perfect for a casual meal or hangout with friends, a date and family time.

Ambiance: The restaurant is very bright and spacious with a blend of modern and traditional Japanese decor. It's trendy, modern, and authentic at the same time which is always a good combination! very pretty and aesthetic for social media :)

Food: We ordered green tea, miso soup, prawn tempura, 2 special rolls (flames roll & osaka crunch), spicy salmon sushi, wild sockeye salmon sashimi and unagi hand cone. (for 2 people) I believe the tea was genmaicha (green tea with brown rice). that and the miso was perfect and not watered down compared to plenty of other restaurants. The sashimi was great and I was happy that they offer wild sockeye which is not always the case in some restaurants. The house rolls were both a hit, my favorite was the flames roll. Perfect combo of seared salmon and soft tuna in the middle. My sister's favorite was the Osaka Crunch and she was also very happy with her Unagi cone. And of course, we can't really go wrong with shrimp tempura. All this for 2 people and our bill came to $63 which I would say is a great deal for quality and value!

Service: The service was perfect! We came just as dinner rush was starting on a Saturday night. Our server, Shirley, was very friendly and attentive. We did not have to wait long for our food given how busy it was.

There are plenty of other items on the menu that I would love to try next time. They also offer noodles, Poke, and more. Also, this may seem like a minor detail, but I like that the restaurant uses metal chopsticks. Might just be me, but it feels more elevated and better for the environment anyway 😆. Will definitely be coming...

Edit to respond to owners response: I can understand technological issues. If that had been communicated at any point that evening, we would have understood. The communication was lacking at all points.

Only two stars because the sushi is genuinely excellent and they have said they're going to give us our money back. We're regular customers, but delivery is nearly an hour late. The young hostess on the phones is the last person on the planet I want to speak to because she will put you on hold for an exorbitant amount of time and is incompetent at her job. Asked for my name 3 different times, doesn't listen when you give her the phone number. No one knows where the food is. Our first phone call asking where it was they said it was "on its way" which it clearly wasn't. They keep saying "We're busy." It's unacceptable to accept a delivery order for a SPECIFIC time in advance then say "Come and get it yourself, we're still making it." 50 minutes AFTER the time it was supposed to arrive. When I arrived to pick up the food an hour and 15 minutes after it was supposed to arrive at my home, the manager was on the phone. I waited patiently, she finished her phone call, said "One sec." This was all fine. Then the phone rang again and she picked it up and walked away. The worst customer service experience I've had in a very long time. I'm disappointed to say we won't be back as their food truly...

My friend lives in town and recommended this place, as they have enjoyed it before. We arrived on Friday at 9:05; the restaurant was closing at 9:45. I had literally just gotten into town on the bus, and we went straight there. We walked in the door and waited for a minute to be served. The waitress came up to us and the very first thing they said was their last call for food was in 2 minutes. We were taken aback - we understood arriving within the hour would be a quick turnaround, and we would’ve been completely understanding if during seating, they let us know that the kitchen was closing soon, but it felt a little unreasonable to tell us we had to order within 2 minutes. Anyways we were kind of surprised and took a moment to discuss and let her know that we would try somewhere else, then she responded in a bit of a sassy tone saying along the lines of “well I’m just being honest”. Idk. Definitely not great customer service, she seemed annoyed we even arrived. Overall, pretty unreasonable expectations. I’ve never went to a restaurant that had food service cut off 40 minutes before close. Or been treated like that before. 10 minutes before close? Reasonable. 40? Not so much. We left and went to Ke Charcoal and Grill and had a great experience. We will not be...

🍣Heart warming Japanese ramen & sushi roll ✨ ✨Location Located in the 18 Ave SW, just a step from the famous food street 17 Ave, Hana Sushi has definitely get the best location and guests can conveniently walk into the street with bars and drinks after dinner with them. ✨Ambience The vibe in the restaurant is welcoming and warm, highlighted by the big Japanese wine container and cherry blossom decorated lights, making one feel stepping into Japan to enjoy the food. ✨Food The menu is diversify. With variety of ramen, udon, sushi, sashimi, don and appetiser. Tonight I had a Tomkotsu ramen (spicy) and Salmon Avocado roll. The Tomkotsu ramen came in hot and looks alluring. The softness of the ramen is just right, not too soft and not too hard. With some spice on the soup, it brings out the sweetness of the noodle and veggies. Soft boiled egg has a melted egg yolk which melts into your mouth. The Salmon Avocado roll is refreshing. The avocado and salmon has a perfect match which melts into the warmth of the tongue. The ingredients is fresh. The staff are polite and helpful and makes us feel welcoming ~

Quiet, laid back atmosphere, even after the chaos of a live performance right outside their front doors. Myself and my 2 friends stopped in for a meal before returning to Red Deer, and this was an awesome capstone to end the day. I had a bowl of Tonkotsu Black (a strong garlic-aromatic umami and salty pork-forward ramen dish) with a classic Salmon and Avocado roll. The Tonkotsu was on-par if not better with my favorite version of the dish from a restaurant that closed years ago. The salmon in my roll was fresh and buttery, with a somewhat finer cut than what I'm used to seeing. The avocado was *perfectly ripe* with no taste indication of citrus based oxidation prevention. Both of my companions spoke highly of their meals as well- the Double Happy Roll, a Rainbow Roll, and a few individual pieces of ither sorts. My one friend shared a piece of their rainbow roll with me and I was shocked at the pleasant taste of the tuna- usually I find it metallic and harsh, but this tuna was gentle and subtle- enjoyable even! One of the best dining experiences I've had from a random street-side walk-in!
