It was our first time visiting Hana Sushi and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! I think I found my new favorite sushi restaurant in the city! I was looking for a sushi restaurant that is comparable to that of Vancouver's and I'm happy to have stumbled upon this place. I have given it 5 stars based on the criteria below.
Location: This restaurant is in Mission which is still close to the busy 17th avenue but isn't on the busier side of it which is always a plus! Perfect for a casual meal or hangout with friends, a date and family time.
Ambiance: The restaurant is very bright and spacious with a blend of modern and traditional Japanese decor. It's trendy, modern, and authentic at the same time which is always a good combination! very pretty and aesthetic for social media :)
Food: We ordered green tea, miso soup, prawn tempura, 2 special rolls (flames roll & osaka crunch), spicy salmon sushi, wild sockeye salmon sashimi and unagi hand cone. (for 2 people) I believe the tea was genmaicha (green tea with brown rice). that and the miso was perfect and not watered down compared to plenty of other restaurants. The sashimi was great and I was happy that they offer wild sockeye which is not always the case in some restaurants. The house rolls were both a hit, my favorite was the flames roll. Perfect combo of seared salmon and soft tuna in the middle. My sister's favorite was the Osaka Crunch and she was also very happy with her Unagi cone. And of course, we can't really go wrong with shrimp tempura. All this for 2 people and our bill came to $63 which I would say is a great deal for quality and value!
Service: The service was perfect! We came just as dinner rush was starting on a Saturday night. Our server, Shirley, was very friendly and attentive. We did not have to wait long for our food given how busy it was.
There are plenty of other items on the menu that I would love to try next time. They also offer noodles, Poke, and more. Also, this may seem like a minor detail, but I like that the restaurant uses metal chopsticks. Might just be me, but it feels more elevated and better for the environment anyway 😆. Will definitely be coming...

Only two stars because the sushi is genuinely excellent and they have said they're going to give us our money back. We're regular customers, but delivery is nearly an hour late. The young hostess on the phones is the last person on the planet I want to speak to because she will put you on hold for an exorbitant amount of time and is incompetent at her job. Asked for my name 3 different times, doesn't listen when you give her the phone number. No one knows where the food is. Our first phone call asking where it was they said it was "on its way" which it clearly wasn't. They keep saying "We're busy." It's unacceptable to accept a delivery order for a SPECIFIC time in advance then say "Come and get it yourself, we're still making it." 50 minutes AFTER the time it was supposed to arrive. When I arrived to pick up the food an hour and 15 minutes after it was supposed to arrive at my home, the manager was on the phone. I waited patiently, she finished her phone call, said "One sec." This was all fine. Then the phone rang again and she picked it up and walked away. The worst customer service experience I've had in a very long time. I'm disappointed to say we won't be back as their food truly...
Read moreMy friend lives in town and recommended this place, as they have enjoyed it before. We arrived on Friday at 9:05; the restaurant was closing at 9:45. I had literally just gotten into town on the bus, and we went straight there. We walked in the door and waited for a minute to be served. The waitress came up to us and the very first thing they said was their last call for food was in 2 minutes. We were taken aback - we understood arriving within the hour would be a quick turnaround, and we would’ve been completely understanding if during seating, they let us know that the kitchen was closing soon, but it felt a little unreasonable to tell us we had to order within 2 minutes. Anyways we were kind of surprised and took a moment to discuss and let her know that we would try somewhere else, then she responded in a bit of a sassy tone saying along the lines of “well I’m just being honest”. Idk. Definitely not great customer service, she seemed annoyed we even arrived. Overall, pretty unreasonable expectations. I’ve never went to a restaurant that had food service cut off 40 minutes before close. Or been treated like that before. 10 minutes before close? Reasonable. 40? Not so much. We left and went to Ke Charcoal and Grill and had a great experience. We will not be...
