Walking into Nick's Steakhouse & Pizza on Crowchild Trail isn't just stepping into a restaurant; it’s like entering a beautifully preserved piece of Calgary history. Despite being born and raised here, this was my first visit, and I immediately understood why this local institution—in business since 1979—is so beloved. The legacy is evident in every detail, from the warm, classic 1970s décor to the incredible family hospitality.
I chose the Beef Dip, and it was the perfect introduction to Nick's dedication to hearty, scratch-made comfort food. The beef was tender, the jus flavorful, and the sandwich itself hit every mark for quality, old-school flavour. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring you get classic value.
What sets Nick's apart is its deep, genuine connection to the community. You can feel the history, especially its ties to the Calgary Stampeders and McMahon Stadium right across the street. The atmosphere before a home game is electric, and knowing this is where the Stampeders have been sharing pre-game meals for decades just adds to the iconic status.
This is a true, three-generation family-run business, founded by the late, great Nick Petros. His journey from Greek immigrant to Calgary entrepreneur is inspirational, and the current owners, Mark and Michelle Petros, maintain that tradition of warmth and dedication. Nick's isn't just about feeding customers; they treat you like family.
If you are looking for a taste of authentic Calgary—the kind of place with award-winning food, decades of tradition, and a heart for its community—you absolutely must visit Nick’s. Highly recommended for family dinners, game day eats, or just a truly satisfying sandwich and fries experience. I can’t wait to go back and try the famous pizza or a classic Alberta steak!
Also no photos, because I absolutely scarfed down the food before making the realization. Gotta come back and redeem...
Read moreI only discovered Nick’s because family started working there.
I was there on Valentine’s Day. The host/hostess was super friendly and directed me to my table where I found a dozen roses on the table and a bottle of the Grayson Cellars Cab Sauv with two glasses, how romantic! (My husband did request this). We then were served by Taylor who introduced herself with a great smile and charismatic personality who also insured we were comfortable and cozy. She is a long hair blonde girl who is a pleasure to be served by. We started with the Nicks Greeks salad with home made house Greek dressing. By the way, so delicious. The feta on it is so outstanding! We got garlic prawns as an appetizer and steaks as a main cooked to perfection. I had the filet and my husband had the strip-loin cooked to perfection. Came with a salad and steamed veggies as a side, not to mention the baked to perfection BAKED potato still wrapped in foil to hold in the heat to melt my whipped butter then topped off with sour cream in house made bacon bits and chives.
I was so full after the Nicks portions that I had to take my dessert to go. But I must mention that the dessert we got was cheesecake and it is make in house and my oh my it’s so fluffy and tastes great even the next day.
Our server checked regularly to make sure our meal was good and to our standards and held up the Nicks reputation.
This was one of my best dining experiences as are all my nicks steakhouse visits in all of my life. Nicks has exceeded the reputation they hold countless times on all of my visits and my employees are exceptional. Our waitress Taylor was personable and friendly and had lots of knowledge about the menu. I will be dining again. Nicks is romantic and family friendly and can accommodate any occasion.
Can’t wait until...
Read moreIt was an almost good experience, I feel there is a bit to unpack here so come along for the ride. When driving by Crowchild you see Nicks in your commute quite often, and what happens for most is you eventually say to yourself, “Hey let’s try that Restaurant we’ve seen for years and never eaten at”. When entering the restaurant you are greeted by very kind, and joyful waiters who greet you and find a table. Once seated you are greeted with this larger-than-life BDE menu, the selection was quite vast and I feel if I chose anything else on this menu my review would have been different. I decided to go with the Ribeye steak, Medium Rare, this steak was disappointingly thin, looks almost boiled if possible, chewy, and full of non rendered fat. While my fellow reviewers ordered varying menu items to keep the sense of what the restaurant had to offer, their food looked (and from what I heard tasted) good. That being said the service was fast, the waiters checked up on us often and made sure the experience was good, and the bill was reasonable. While not being a high-end restaurant like Hy’s or Caesars or even upper-end middle like the Keg, I would rate this a perfect business lunch category. The only thing I would change is that Rib eye steak, I’m sure everything else is perfectly fine the filet looked good even. That being said take the review with a grain of salt and experience it for yourself, after all this is a locally owned restaurant run by some amazing people, I’ve heard stories of the owners saving and staying by a Woman with a broken/sprained foot in a mountain just because they are good people. Support local but stay away from...
