Walking into Nick's Steakhouse & Pizza on Crowchild Trail isn't just stepping into a restaurant; it’s like entering a beautifully preserved piece of Calgary history. Despite being born and raised here, this was my first visit, and I immediately understood why this local institution—in business since 1979—is so beloved. The legacy is evident in every detail, from the warm, classic 1970s décor to the incredible family hospitality.

I chose the Beef Dip, and it was the perfect introduction to Nick's dedication to hearty, scratch-made comfort food. The beef was tender, the jus flavorful, and the sandwich itself hit every mark for quality, old-school flavour. The portion sizes are generous, ensuring you get classic value.

What sets Nick's apart is its deep, genuine connection to the community. You can feel the history, especially its ties to the Calgary Stampeders and McMahon Stadium right across the street. The atmosphere before a home game is electric, and knowing this is where the Stampeders have been sharing pre-game meals for decades just adds to the iconic status.

This is a true, three-generation family-run business, founded by the late, great Nick Petros. His journey from Greek immigrant to Calgary entrepreneur is inspirational, and the current owners, Mark and Michelle Petros, maintain that tradition of warmth and dedication. Nick's isn't just about feeding customers; they treat you like family.

If you are looking for a taste of authentic Calgary—the kind of place with award-winning food, decades of tradition, and a heart for its community—you absolutely must visit Nick’s. Highly recommended for family dinners, game day eats, or just a truly satisfying sandwich and fries experience. I can’t wait to go back and try the famous pizza or a classic Alberta steak!

Also no photos, because I absolutely scarfed down the food before making the realization. Gotta come back and redeem...

I only discovered Nick’s because family started working there.

I was there on Valentine’s Day. The host/hostess was super friendly and directed me to my table where I found a dozen roses on the table and a bottle of the Grayson Cellars Cab Sauv with two glasses, how romantic! (My husband did request this). We then were served by Taylor who introduced herself with a great smile and charismatic personality who also insured we were comfortable and cozy. She is a long hair blonde girl who is a pleasure to be served by. We started with the Nicks Greeks salad with home made house Greek dressing. By the way, so delicious. The feta on it is so outstanding! We got garlic prawns as an appetizer and steaks as a main cooked to perfection. I had the filet and my husband had the strip-loin cooked to perfection. Came with a salad and steamed veggies as a side, not to mention the baked to perfection BAKED potato still wrapped in foil to hold in the heat to melt my whipped butter then topped off with sour cream in house made bacon bits and chives.

I was so full after the Nicks portions that I had to take my dessert to go. But I must mention that the dessert we got was cheesecake and it is make in house and my oh my it’s so fluffy and tastes great even the next day.

Our server checked regularly to make sure our meal was good and to our standards and held up the Nicks reputation.

This was one of my best dining experiences as are all my nicks steakhouse visits in all of my life. Nicks has exceeded the reputation they hold countless times on all of my visits and my employees are exceptional. Our waitress Taylor was personable and friendly and had lots of knowledge about the menu. I will be dining again. Nicks is romantic and family friendly and can accommodate any occasion.

Can’t wait until...

It was an almost good experience, I feel there is a bit to unpack here so come along for the ride. When driving by Crowchild you see Nicks in your commute quite often, and what happens for most is you eventually say to yourself, “Hey let’s try that Restaurant we’ve seen for years and never eaten at”. When entering the restaurant you are greeted by very kind, and joyful waiters who greet you and find a table. Once seated you are greeted with this larger-than-life BDE menu, the selection was quite vast and I feel if I chose anything else on this menu my review would have been different. I decided to go with the Ribeye steak, Medium Rare, this steak was disappointingly thin, looks almost boiled if possible, chewy, and full of non rendered fat. While my fellow reviewers ordered varying menu items to keep the sense of what the restaurant had to offer, their food looked (and from what I heard tasted) good. That being said the service was fast, the waiters checked up on us often and made sure the experience was good, and the bill was reasonable. While not being a high-end restaurant like Hy’s or Caesars or even upper-end middle like the Keg, I would rate this a perfect business lunch category. The only thing I would change is that Rib eye steak, I’m sure everything else is perfectly fine the filet looked good even. That being said take the review with a grain of salt and experience it for yourself, after all this is a locally owned restaurant run by some amazing people, I’ve heard stories of the owners saving and staying by a Woman with a broken/sprained foot in a mountain just because they are good people. Support local but stay away from...

Alrighty I seldom write reviews but when I do.. It’s worth the read.. My boyfriend and I are from Ontario and I actually lived in Calgary for winter of 2017-2018 in which my uncle (Mike Porubovic) who “knows the owner” stressed that I needed to stop in and eat at Nick’s.. I never got around to it. Each time my uncle visited Calgary, he’d bring our family home Nick’s swag, and signature Nick’s spice that my boyfriend and I poor on all our food like crack. LOL. (FYI: Buy it!). Recently we were in Calgary for an event and I said to my boyfriend, we may as well try Nick’s for dinner I guess. So here we are. So everything we saw and ordered was the most delicious we’ve ever had.. Honestly everything was so fresh I even said to my boyfriend “ok even the garlic bread is moist!” haha. My boyfriend Mark had the pizza and raved it was one of the best pizzas he’s ever had. And he’s a tough case to crack for pizza! I ordered the dry ribs - perfect. And the rainforest salad.. And I don’t know how y’all make a salad so good but it was friggen GOOD. I wasn’t even that hungry coming in and I scarfed down every bit. Leave it to my boyfriend as also a CHEESECAKE connoisseur.. Holy home made and not over powering sweet 10/10. I’m a marketing gal and talk about branding an establishment, I love that this place is family owned and unique to its name and background.. Right on. We’d love to try a steak next time.. We aren’t in Calgary often.. But when we come - NICK’S will be a MUST each trip. Thx Mark and Family, my Uncle Mike was right - IT’S GOOD. 😋 Sorry it took me so long. - Timmy and Mark.

Nick's is my favourite place to go for a dinner with friends or family. They have an amazing selection of food (pizza, pastas, chicken, veal, steak, etc..) and are great for so many different occasions. I also love the "70's vibe"! They are located right off of Crowchild and Banff Trail, across from the football stadium. They have an overflow parking lot available, which is also great for trucks. My most recent visit was with my mom and husband. We all decided to order the steak special, which came with a side of baked mussels. With the rising cost of beef, Nick's is one of the best places you can go in the city for a decently priced, delicious steak - and you really get your money's worth! Each entree comes with salad and garlic toast, as well as potato or rice and a vegetable. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was delivered to our table in a decent amount of time, piping hot. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and was so tender and juicy. And the mussels - wow! I had never tried baked mussels of that style before. They were baked in a creamy tomato sauce with chunks of tomato and onion, and cheese baked on top to finish it all off. It was almost like eating pizza on top of mussels. The portion sizes were so generous that we couldn't finish it all. We also ordered a margarita and moscow mule from the drink menu, and both were excellent! It's always a busy place, so I recommend calling ahead for reservations! Definitely recommend Nick's for any occassion!

About 2 hours ago, I ordered the chicken parmesan for pick up that my partner and I have ordered many time in-house. The in-house meal that's served is more than enough for two people, however, the pick-up meal we received equalled a palmful of chicken, 3 measly vegetables with a side of pasta Versus the in-house meal we're used to, and a Caesar salad bigger than the main meal put together, all for $50.00. I called them to complain and was given the usual run-around you would expect from other restaurants - but not Nicks, a family restaurant known from the early 70's. Really guys, really? Here's what; we're not eating your food served in a lousy way for $50 that we paid and picked up ourselves. Really? Have you gotten too good for the family food and restaurant you're known for? seriously disappointing. Shame on you. Oh, and so interesting, as i try to post the picture of our paltry meal - Nick's won't let me due to it doesn't fit into any of its categories, such as kids and parking. So many great Italian restaurants in the city You are now off our radar. Did you look at the picture, Mark? This is how our meal came - literally half the size of what we have ordered in-house many times. It's not acceptable. Period
