In Canada, I’ve been on the prowl for good food that has umami that kick like a mule. Some places are either painfully salty or plain tasteless. Here came Pad Thai Restaurant, an amazing eatery that’s extremely faithful to Thai roots without trying too hard. I reviewed Pad Thai Restaurant based on food quality, ambiance, server attentiveness, and value. If I could only give six stars for each, I would!
The ambiance is great for big groups and is kid friendly. You’re treated to a relaxing atmosphere with dimmed lights. The servers were helpful. They helped guide us to the menu and even gave us recommendations for the next time we come back. And we will.
We started with a Thai crowd favorite: the Chicken Satay. The chicken was well-seasoned and tender (think Kobe/Wagyu Beef quality) but for chicken. The chicken was covered in the signature peanut sauce which combines suave texture and a complex flavor profile which balanced sweetness and nuttiness. It was a great complement to the main course—the Pad Thai. Not wanting to misrepresent the restaurant’s namesake, the dish was the ultimate spirit of a Thai meal. The noodle serving was heaping. It was topped with chicken, huge shrimp, and fried tofu cubes. It’s as if all the animals decided that the afterlife all led to this plate. I ordered it Hot, and even though the spiciness delivered, the flavors were still equally sharing the spotlight. We even had to order additional peanut sauce because it just works. The sauce added to the complexity of it all. Jesus, it was a party in your mouth. We finished with their signature Thai Iced tea which is both a dessert and a drink. It was as sweet as I expected it to be, but you can top it off with more water to balance it out (plus, you’ll get more drink which is nice). Obviously at around $20-$30 per person (depends if you have drinks or a dessert), this was worth every penny. We even had extra food to take home. Quality and quantity was there without hurting your wallet.
If you’re around Mount Pleasant and you want an authentic Asian meal, look no further to the Pad Thai Restaurant where the name is a literal advertisement for the food. Hell, go here even if you’re not from the area. It checks all of my preferences as a foodie. More than that, price value was excellent with what you’re getting. It pulls no punches in ingredients, ambiance,...

And viola, Pad Thai Restaurant, apparently amazing. First thing, did we have a reservation? No, no problem the gentleman at the front said one second. Came back ten seconds later, I didn't time, just counted one one thousands. Can we be out by 6:30?, 2 hours away. Yes, then let me seat you.
Customer service 10 / 10, and I dont have food in front me.
Menu is small. Living in Asia there are two reasons the menu is small, either super good food, or just starting out. We ordered deep fried spring rolls and fried wontons (the kids favorite). My wife went to work.
32, 35, 50, 56 and coconut rice. Sweet and sour pork, chicken skewers wrapped in leaves, pad Thai (my favorite), and rice pineapple chicken. See the pictures just remember the dish number on the menu.
Full confession, I was so hungry and blown away I forgot to take pictures before we descended on the food like a pack of locusts. It was amazing, I mean really amazing. Write home to mom amazing.
Well blended spices, well defined dishes, turned down the heat on the spices dishes for the kids. All together it was a feast with at least one lunch for four afterward.
Down side - not much of one and its the price might be on the high side for some, for four came to $140 (with tip) if you ignore the fancy drinks we all had. For us it was mid road price for high road value. Thats what we love.
Would I recommend? Yes clean, great service, excellent ambiance, and best Thai I've had in Calgary. Only thing I would change, make a reservation before showing up just to save a good spot in...
Read moreThe food was pretty good, but felt they were a bit stingy with the portions considering how much they charge. They did however give us tons of rice for "2 portions"... but we ended up with tons of leftover rice and not enough curry to use the rice with. Not sure how much they generally give, but the container they gave us was half full, and we got maybe 6 small pieces of chicken for about 17 bucks. Also with order of spring rolls, and fried wontons... we got less than a Tablespoon of sauce each... (I know because I measured it lol). As soon as you dipped one, you had barely any left. I don't know but I feel paying 75 bucks for our meal we could have at least had maybe.. oh I dunno a little more sauce?
Pad thai, nice good flavour, although I feel like there was too much tofu, and honestly not enough chicken or shrimp. I had maybe 3 shrimp and little bit of small chicken. Not even really sure if it had chicken, tbh lol. I think it was supposed to have it. Noodles were nicely cooked. Good leftover for lunch.
Green curry... mostly vegetables. Little spicier than normal for me, but had a nice flavour. Vegetables were well cooked, and not overdone. Some places I've been overcook the veg. Chicken was dry though.
It's not horrible by any means. Their food is good, but a little overpriced for how much they give you...
