Update: Tried this place out again not too long ago with my family and we had a much better experience. Attentive service even in a busy restaurant on a Saturday morning and 3 out of 4 plates were great. 2 orders were eggs Benedict and one was made correctly and one the eggs had to be remade and then still weren't made right the second time but he just ate them anyway. Mine was made well. My kids food was great everything looked good and they enjoyed it. The creamer container was clean this time lol. Way happier with our last visit. ... The hostess was awesome. The server took a LONG time to come to the table at first. My first attempt of poached medium was poached extra soft and I said so right as I cut into it and they remade that quickly and well. I asked for it to be on a waffle for the extra charge option they have on the menu and didn’t get that. Some of the fruit looked kinda old. Like it has been precut a day ago and wasn’t sealed well enough in the fridge. Specifically the orange slice, watermelon and kiwi. 1 of the dollar pancakes for kids was cooked perfect and plated nicely. The second one was kind of haphazard. The coffee creamer container had dried out cream on the bottom that was obviously there for a while. The bacon was good, the hashbrowns were decent, the Benedict the second time around tasted great even though it wasn’t on the waffle. I actually liked their English muffins anyway. The server became more attentive after second plate came out but never asked me if I needed more coffee or kids refills or anything, I asked for water which she got quickly. She cleared just my plate quickly after I finished while the kids were still eating but then never came back again so I went to the front to pay. Meh. I have a soft spot for Phil’s chain restaurants thanks to core memories from childhood. But this location was kinda...
Read morePhil's is a true Calgary gem, and this location is always the best whether it's dine in or take out. With my work schedule and busy small business, feeding myself well often gets forgotten. I probably order delivery from here a few times a week, they quite literally have kept me alive some weeks it feels. I've been eating here since I was a child, it was a treat with my dad and still gives me all the nostalgia. If you're looking for a great meal, wonderful + caring service and just an overall great dining experience, choose Phil's before any other breakfast joint or diner. You won't be disappointed. I will add, although most of my orders are perfectly executed right down to any note or request, I did have an issue where some items were missing. The service industry is exhausting, I've been there and it's Sunday breakfast - prime time. I did call just to let them know. I spoke with Ann...I have a feeling Ann is the skilled artist with sense of humour that decorates the packaging of every order...something tells me she cares very much about that place...all of the staff do, I've never had bad service. Ann was extremely kind, up front and apologetic. I'm very easy going, it makes me sick to hear the way service staff get treated by the latter. Thanks for acknowledging me and for your genuine concern. It's no big deal at all and how you handled it was perfect.obviously, I'll be ordering again...and again....I mean, where else is going to make me such delicious fries and gravy at 6am?! And then send it to my door....man, what a rough life I lead 🤣. Phil's - you guys rock. Don't ever change. You're a welcome relief in a world where the majority of restaurants have lost the heart for what they do and it shows in your food and the staff. Like I said, you're a gem. PS THANKS FOR THE MAPLE SYRUP...
Read moreI went to Phil's this morning for breakfast (Sept 5th/13) and although I won't complain about the portions of the food vs the value for the money. I will make some comments about their waitresses and what they refer to as being Hollandaise sauce. I don't know what kind of sauce it is supposed to be, but it's definitely NOT Hollandaise sauce nor should it be called that, as it is misleading to their customers. Hollandaise is NOT white, Bernaise sauce is white (although it didn't taste like Bernaise either).
Hollandaise sauce must be made using egg yolks, therefore making it yellow, it is also thicker and very flavourful, which this sauce was not nor was it made using egg yolks. My guess is some type of diluted, powder whatever. When I asked the waitress about it, she insisted it was hollandaise sauce, not bernaise sauce and didn't even know what bernaise sauce was, if you don't know then how can you tell me that's not what it is? Then she told me it was Phil's version of hollandaise sauce, if it is, then it should be called Phil's Sauce and no reference should be made to Hollandaise because it's not.
Talk about misleading, when a customer is expecting something, that is what they are expecting, not a half assed watered down version of what...
