Phil's Restaurants — Restaurant in Calgary

It's a shame. This place was amazing for years, but 3 out of the last 3 times we've gone we've had issues with this location. I've almost never sent food back to the kitchen in restaurants. And it's happened twice in the last 3 visits here. The first time was the kitchen forgetting to put the back bacon on the bennies. You know... The thing that makes it a benny? And today was because the waitress was so inattentive that the food came out bone cold. And this was after not cleaning the table. Serving us water in cups that still had food chunks stuck to it, and forgetting to bring us our waters and coffees until when the food was probably ready in the back. And then the waitress tried to blame the cooks in the back for the food being cold. The place has gone down hill, and they only have one good waitress left and that's the older lady. So if you go in and get sat down with anyone else just leave. We won't be coming back, after nearly a decade of coming to this location we're going to start doing breakfast at tavern or somewhere that is still run by competent staff. Real shame.... We might give the place another go in a year or two, but until then this stain is going to rule...

I've been a Phil's customer for over 30 years. When I was a little kid I used to call it the blueberry store, because I loved the blueberry pancakes so much. They put the fruit in the batter as God intended.

This year's (2025) seasonal pancakes have been absolutely phenomenal! The summer pineapple pancakes were loaded with fruit but the flavor was perfectly integrated and never tasted cartoonishly tropical. The fall white chocolate & cranberry is deliciously balanced pops of tartness and sweetness.

The ambience cannot be replicated. Oak trim, brass door handles, glass panes between the booths. The carpet has the same color palette as the Unicorn Tapestries, and speaks to the historical significance of this Calgary institution.

But great interior design and tasty pancakes don't amount to a hill of beans if the service isn't great, and let me tell you buds, this location is exemplary! Sherry and Raj took such great care of my fiancee and I. We will be back many more times, and if you're looking for a great breakfast in a family friendly restaurant, you should come...

From the moment I walked in, not wearing my best either. The lovely ladies here made me feel like I was visiting family. They were exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. It was just what I was needing. The food came out impressively fast and looking better than I imagined. They didn't almost have time to ask me how the first couple bites were because it was so delicious that it wasn't taking long to eat it. This is a place I've always wondered about and since they close at 3 pm I see why they don't stay open longer. They do just fine with these hours. Definitely a must if you haven't and if you already have I'm sure you are still coming often. Even observing other tables they are so kind and polite. I love it here. A must in my eyes.
