Really tasty food, bad service. I have been going there for a year, because it tastes so good, but every time I go I leave feeling annoyed...
The tables are often sticky when you sit down, even if they have been "washed." The servers do not look after tables individually, so nobody will ever worry about checking if you need anything after you get your food (more water, a second napkin). There are one or two friendly servers and the rest are too stressed out to care about their customers' experience. If you have a problem (like a big gross fly in your soup), the inexperienced servers will not know how to handle it, and will not replace your soup until you ask. You really have to put in a lot of effort to get a server's attention. The bean sprouts that come with soup are on plates that are too small, so half of them touch the table. Servers will come to your table while you are eating to top up the chopsticks and spoons, without even a hello (can't this happen when the tables are empty?). When you go to pay, they will ask you where you were sitting and what you ate, because nobody has brought your bill to you.
I have gone several times a month for the past year and nobody has indicated that they recognize me. Even when it's slow, there is still bad service. I know serving can be very difficult, and lots of these things are really minor, but they happen every time! This is just bad training and bad management. It is the restaurant, not the servers individually. I suggest take-out. It really does taste very good, at a great price, or I wouldn't...
Read moreThey're the people who made me fall in love with Vietnamese food. I've been a regular here for 7 years. Only now have they raised their prices due to inflationary and supply chain pressures, and even then it's only by a couple bucks. Absolutely stunning how consistent they've been all this time; I don't think they've ever done me wrong. I get the pho and rice dishes, which are given in comically large portions, perfect for strongmen like me who need to eat like wolves. I'm the only person I know who can actually finish all the food in one go, and my friends can eat a lot. Best post-workout meal I've ever had is their beef rice dish with extra vegetables. Not only does it taste exquisite, it's homely, wholesome, complete, and massive. We need more restaurants like this, not just in Calgary, but in all cities: Places that stick to a homestyle way of cooking. I'm so sick and tired of these abysmal one-off trend restaurants that only serve Instagram losers social pages. Seems like they're everywhere now, letting yuppies flock to throw money down the gutter for small portions, unhealthy meals, and dumpster quality food for absurd prices. Pho Huong keeps it simple, clean and classic. Love you guys,...
Read moreMy husband and child were here to eat and we DID NOT have a good service experience. It was actually the WORST service we've ever had and I was a waitress for 5 years and I know what is expected as a server in this industry. Doesn't matter how good the food or prices were, it's the service that matters! However we sat and waited for 5 mins to get menus and there was only 4 tables at the time and two servers on the floor. Then to place an order was another 8 mins and we didn't get our water during that time! It took over 35 mins just to get water! The guy didn't seem like he cared and the fact people CAME AFTER US AND WERE SERVED WATER AND THEIR FOOD BEFORE US! @&!#%+ We ordered two starters and only one came AFTER the meal! Our initial server never came back to our table and the other waitress who did took care of everything thathe couldn't, and she was running around helping other tables while turtle race over there wasn't doing much! Poor woman!! To top it off my husband went to pay and the cashier lady asked us how it was and he said the service was terrible and she shrugged off his comment and tried to hurry him out without even listening to what was being said! HORENDOUS! NEVER...
