I went to their store to order a milk tea. I was the only customer in the store. There was no one at the counter; I waited around a minute before a lady that was working in the back was surprised to see me at the counter. I understand that it is inefficient to have someone sitting at the front doing nothing while they need help in the back. Having a bell or something that is loud enough in the back so they are aware right away that someone entered the store would be helpful and a lot of small businesses use this method.
The lady that greeted me was nice and cheerful which makes up a little bit for the wait. She indicated that the plastic lid machine was not working and offered a dome lid as a substitute. I accepted. It turned out to be not very functional for the larger size cup as the straw is not long enough to drink from with the dome lid on. Luckily, I didn't need to drink it until I got to my desk job. If I was walking around and drinking it, I would have to remove the lid in order to drink it while walking and it would inevitably cause a spillage. A flat lid or a longer straw is needed in order to be functional. This contributed to the unpleasant experience.
Most importantly, the taste of the milk tea was bland. It was made worst by the fact that it was a cold drink. The milk tea content was already chilled, and it was topped off with more ice which diluted the flavor even more. I feel this preparation process may work well with other bubble tea products, not with a coffee based drink. I feel this drink should be offer as a hot drink by default like most other bubble tea shops. Unfortunately, I forgot ask, and it came out as a cold drink. I tried another non-milk tea before; it was rather ordinary at best. Overall, it was a big disappointment.
In conclusion, I would not order any bubble tea again unless there is substantial improvement is made. I may go back to order their food. Although unspectacular in taste, there are not that many such restaurants in Calgary, and definitely not in the...
Read moreWe visited Sagana Foods on Saturday afternoon and were disappointed with the overall experience. Nobody was at the counter and had to wait.. While the food tasted decent, the service and cleanliness really need improvement.
The turon container was left open near the cashier - no tissue, no cover - definitely not hygienic. The lady at the counter was on the phone and not very friendly. I asked about buying the remaining 6 pieces of turon, but she said they were no longer available, and she mentioned the customer on the phone will buy it. For me, if a customer is standing there in person, they should be attended to first or at least acknowledged. When I asked if more would be cooked (it was only 3pm), she just said âno.â with no further explanation.
We also waited a while for our order, only to find it had been sitting at the counter the whole timeâno one told us. The atmosphere wasnât cozy or welcoming, and prices felt too highâ$10 for a street food platter and $5 for 4 pcs of kwek-kwek didnât feel worth it. One surprising issue: the cheese sticks had hotdog inside, which wasnât mentioned. Thatâs important info for people who donât eat meat.
Unfortunately, we wonât be returning. Hope they improve the service and overall...
Read moreSagana Foods in Calgary is a great place for Filipino food. Their sweet tocino, longganisa, and hotdogs taste just like the ones back home. Everything is fresh and full of flavor.
They also serve tasty bubble teaâmy favorite is the brown sugar matcha. The halo-halo is really good too.
The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome every time. Itâs a small, local shop with a warm vibe.
If youâre craving Filipino food or want to try something new, Sagana Foods is definitely...
