2 stars for being OK. Cheese is great. Liked the crispy cheese edges. Toppings were sadly on the lean side. Crust was good but in no way like the old school Greek style thick pan crust. Those days seem to be long gone from Mediterranean pizza places from the 80’s and 90s. Those used to be everywhere in Calgary back then but have been slowly dwindling. Still a few old ones around but most of them have downsized their pizzas as well. Crusts are now thinner, cheese and toppings are less. My kids will never get to experience a 4” thick pizza pie from Hawaiian Pizza at the Red Carpet Steak House. Half an 8” and you were stuffed! Anyway, the only thing I really didn’t like here was their pizza sauce. Has a sweet flavor to it that doesn’t seem to compliment the rest of the pizza and somewhat overpowers it. Seemed almost like a canned spaghetti sauce. Prego comes to mind (sorry). Was a really bizarre taste. Similar sweetness to Western pizza’s sauce but much thicker. Which in turn coats your mouth and masks all the other flavors with sweetness. To each their own. I prefer my sauce with some zest. Just my opinion. Perhaps you will like your...
Read moreI've lived in the Deep South for more than 20 years and had yet to find a replacement for Atlas Pizza (still one of the best in town) when I lived further North. I'd drive to Atlas once in a while and also hit Crispy Crust to the west (also excellent) but both are a bit of a drive and definitely not convenient.
I think I've finally found my greek style option that will allow me to stick around locally.
Excellent crust, fresh toppings (and more than enough) - I had the "All Trimmings" pizza and it was perfectly trimmed with just enough of everything.
Some people seem to have a problem with the sauce, that however is where they shine. Amazing sauce, reminds me of Atlas so if you've had that it's quite similar. Seems to have a hint of cinnamon, I suspect it isn't but really can't put my finger on it. Makes the pizza next level.
Finished with a solid layer of high grade mozzarella (and possibly some white cheddar as it has an amazing crunch).
All in all, best pizza in the South part of the city (for a greek style, if you're looking for thin/wood fired, this is...
Read moreDisappointed to say the least. Used to be our go-to pizza for parties, lunches, corporate events, and we loved it.
Somethings changed though, perhaps new ownership? The noticeable differences are:
Pizza sauce. Used to be the best. Now it's basically non existent. Can't tell if this is to mask a new recipe or they are just cheap on it, but the pizza is DRY and there's like a teaspoon of sauce on there. It's flavorless and tastes old, even when it was just prepared.
Service. Taking longer to make the pizzas, and they NEVER have slices at lunch time. During the lunch hour rush. 3 times I've been there at noon and no slices have been available. Told to wait 10 mins, when people are usually on a half hour lunch, how do they not have slices available?
Price. Somehow has gone up? Even though quality of their ingredients and service has gone down.
Verdict. Our favorite pizza joint is no more. This is disappointing to say the least, and when you're paying premium prices for subpar, dry pizza, I would rather order from...
