Subway — Restaurant in Calgary

Let me first start off by saying, I'm ashamed it took me this long to write this review, and the fact that this establishment doesn't have a 5 Star rating across the board is beyond me. Now, skip the review if you don't want a story.

I'm 33 years old and I grew up behind this Subway, for countless years, they have brought in staff that have not only been the hardest working, but personable people to run a simple fast food chain. They never worked for tips before, but still made an effort to learn your order, know your name, and know things about you. I have lived in Deer run, Lakeview, across the city, and I still would make the commute to go to this subway, because the effort and quality is TOP TIER! If ANYONE grew up in the surrounding neighbourhoods they will also tell you the elite level of hospitality and food quality that comes out of this specific subway.

Although the ownership and leadership of the building can't say it, I can. The amount of shit they deal with day in and out from your whinny ass about "I said more lettuce" "I think it's too toasted" is WILDLY frustrating. As someone who often sits in to witness the abuse first hand, I am shocked how everyone in that building is ALWAYS nice, friendly, calm and patient. I could never do it.

The people in this building deserve the praise, it is extinct to have this level of people in a fast food space in todays society. Thank you so much for being a small but bright spot in Braeside. EVERYONE who grew up in the area agrees, and that's a fact.

P.S. Just wanted to educate the braindead zombies that complain about tipping at Subway, it isn't decided by the people making your sandwiches, if you don't want to, don't. I like the people here, I tipped when they didn't even have an option before. That's who the option is for, not the people who don't understand hospitality. The people here will treat you the same whether you do or don't, so don't put blame on the workers. I've been going to this subway for just over ten years now, and I've gotten to know the staff very well over that time. Not only is the quality of the food here great, but the staff are the reason I keep coming back. They're all friendly, intelligent, hard-working individuals with a genuine love in their hearts, and a constant smile on their faces. They treat every single customer with respect and kindness, and in today's world, that's worth a lot.

In recent months, the ownership of this particular location has changed hands, and I've noticed that the new owners are putting a lot of undue pressure on the staff here to make more sales and increase the store revenue. They've changed to longer hours, asked them to up-sell extra meat and cheese, things of that sort. As anyone that has grabbed a subway before knows, that's an incredibly unrealistic and difficult ask, as folks usually already have a preference for what they want when they walk in. In my opinion, if the new owners want to increase revenue so badly, they should focus their efforts on supporting their already amazing staff and look for ways to become a further staple in the Braeside community. The staff here already do plenty.

To anyone that has taken the time to read this review, the staff here need the help and support of the customers now more than ever. Grab a sandwich or salad, buy a few cookies and a drink, chat with the staff and get to know them. Show the new owners that this location and the people that work here are indispensable. Came in with my husband and my daughter for lunch. We ordered a foot long for me , a six inch for my husband and my husband asked for the kids pack for our daughter. They proceed to make a six inch sub for my daughter. They charged us $13 for a kids meal that was supposed to be $5. And when we tried to inquire the woman argued that we asked for a 6 inch kids pack, which isn’t true. We asked for the kids pack which comes with a 3 inch sub. Isn’t it her job to inform us what comes with this combo and ensure we get what we’re asking for? I will never return to this location even tho it is super close to my home. I’d rather go to the one on 52nd se where they don’t argue with the customer.
