My husband loves the Keg. We go every year for his birthday so he can enjoy the escargot and a tasty steak. For the past two years we have made reservations, show up before our reservation time and somehow end up waiting an hour or more before being seated. It seems like there is a huge lack of communication between the front of house staff. We checked in with them at 6:45 this evening and were told they were just waiting to clear the table. 30 minutes later we received a text saying a table was ready. No one approached us at all so, we spoke to the front desk again. Shortly after, a manager comes out to apologize. We still were not seated. At this point we are all hungry and annoyed watching everyone get seated but us. If we had a larger group, this might be understandable but, we were only 4 people. We approach the front desk again, ready to just up and leave, we ask to speak to a manager. Only at this point were we actually seated. I feel there there are too many people involved with seating, things are obviously getting missed and they are likely taking on more reservations than they should be. I feel bad for the front of house because they have to bare the brunt of all the frustrated patrons. It's difficult to stay civil when you are hungry!
Maybe cut down the number of reservations you take, if you cannot keep up? If this was a one time thing, I wouldn't be writing this post. But, it's happened twice now and based off the grumbling of other people packed into the lobby, it was happening to many others.
After this evenings debacle, we have decided not to continue our annual celebration at the Keg. It's dissapointing but, it's also not worth the frustration.
Thankfully, our server, Jeff, was an absolute delight! He truly saved the evening with his sense of humor. Shout out to,...
Read moreWent to The Keg this weekend - I don’t go very often but its a favourite of my friend. The food was good but the whole experience was just ok, especially considering the price. First, why are the staff seemingly obsessed with finding someone for whom it’s their first time visiting the restaurant. We were asked by three different people AND had to listen to the guests around us get asked every time a new table was seated. The question became like white noise for the evening. How often does someone say yes? And if so do they win a prize? Do they get a different menu or a special table? I’m almost tempted to go back and find out. It’s not really a big deal and probably shouldn’t bug me but if you’ve been out to a restaurant there’s really nothing else you need to know. I do wonder if it’s part of creating the idea that the Keg is a higher end restaurant than it is. Beyond that small annoyance the food was delicious, which is really what matters most. The steaks and veggies were cooked and seasoned perfectly to order, although little if any consideration seemed to go into the plating of the main course. I had the twice baked potato as a side which was just ok. My friend had the veggies which looked just dumped on the plate. The steaks were delicious! The wait staff is extremely attentive and friendly (a little over the top for my taste but maybe that’s just me.) The restaurant was very busy and lots of big groups so it was also incredibly loud but that’s perhaps to be expected on a weekend and not much they can do about that. Thankfully the food was very good and the people were very nice. It was absolutely fine but I would hope for a bit more based on the cost as there are many places to get a beautifully cooked steak in Calgary. I would consider going again sometime but I’m not in a big...
Read moreThe service was incredible! Our experience with our server was absolutely wonderful! Due to social distancing (Covid 19) the drinks take longer to arrive but it wasn’t the worst thing to wait a few extra minutes for drinks. I feel my drink may have been more juice(s) or mix(s) than booze but still tasted delicious. The whole family loved their meals! We all ordered steaks and loved them. My only “complaint “ would be I ordered a medium rare steak and it was more rare than medium which I wasn’t a big fan of, but It wasn’t too rare that I couldn’t simply eat it. Obviously every one is different, If you don’t like your steaks more on the rare side, a simple mistake like an under cooked steak could be more difficult to swallow (hahah). Price is good but not great for some portions. $13 for 5 jumbo shrimp is steep in my opinion but we were celebrating so we went for it anyways. It was a good amount of food that tasted great!
In the end the experience was great and we loved our food and our server was fantastic!
If you are wondering about Covid 19 and it’s impact on this location, I had to reserve a table ahead of time according to the site, we checked in with hostess outside the building, We weren’t able to enter the building until the hostess from inside came to get us, everyone had a mask on, tables were removed or left empty for guest separation, the moment a table was vacated someone came to wipe down tables and chairs, we didn’t have 5 different people show up at our table with different items we ordered it was only our one server handling everything for us and the debit/credit machine was cleaned right in front of me. The server also mentioned at the beginning of dinner that there were new protocols and procedures and if we wanted to know more or had questions we were...
