I haven’t dined here for 10+ years - last time things were going downhill and to be honest I was surprised they are still around. Anyway, learning that they’ve revamped their menu, I went tonight with a friend who also used to frequent a lot, but haven’t returned for years. I got there, asked the host how long is the wait for a table of two. She said not very long as tables were flipping fast. Our not very long wait ended up being 53 minutes. I don’t know what her idea or not very long was, but you know what, it was our choice to stay and wait so that’s on us. However, they are very slow at clearing tables, service, etc. Food. Wow where do I even begin. The sushi boats were still around, but exactly like 10+ years ago, it’s never filled with anything good. Always California rolls, dynamite rolls, some spicy salmon/tuna rolls which circled around many times during our stay. The infuriating thing was they’ve packed half of these boats with useless, overpriced snacks like pocky, seaweed, chocolate bars, ramune, hi-chew, even wasabi cans. Like what the f—- how about fill it with food instead? Those things are such a parent trap - I’d seriously scold my kid if they grabbed a $2.95 box of pocky. They also saran wrap such snacks onto their color coded plates… like… can you produce more waste or what? We ended up ordering off the menu and the food takes a while to get to you because they’re busy. I will say they did add a lot of new items to the menu including fancy rolls, sashimi plates etc. but they’re short staffed it seems or the kitchen needs more help. I don’t know if this explains why our not very long wait ended up being almost an hour. Taste wise, it’s nothing special. I can’t believe I fell into the hype and came back. I don’t think I’ve ever regretted a meal this much.

Sushi Boat is one of my go to locations for sushi. The portion sizes varies, but is usually quite large compared to other places. This is not an all you can eat buffet, so the quality is much much better along with portion sizes. Their menu offers a diverse variation of maki sushi, sashimi, udon, tempura, and other items. Along with the diverse variations, Sushi Boat also routinely updates their menu by offering new mini rolls and maki sushi which makes each visit different at times. Service wise, excellent. Always friendly staff and very helpful. Customer oriented which enhances the customer experience. My only complaint in this area is at times the staff may not comprehend due to English being a second language, so it does get frustrating at times when ordering directly off the menu rather than off the boats. This, however, no way diminishes the customer service as they are often quick to address and resolve issues. Restaurant itself is very clean and organized.

Sushi boat is a Japanese restaurant, in where there are plates of sushi on a boat. These plates float around a water powered circle. Which you can then pick up and eat. The restaurant charges you based on the color of the plate that the sushi is placed on. Over the past couple of years, the quality of sushi boat declined heavily. The fish began to smell and the portions were quite small. However, that all changed this past visit. Sushi boat has switched owners. With this swap the quality has improved significantly. The sushi tastes amazing and the portions are slightly larger. Providing decent sizes for the price you pay. The quality of the fish has gone up. However, the price has been slightly raised for certain items. The staff are extremely friendly and interactive. Constantly walking by to check on you. Allowing for quick and efficient service. Overall, the change in owner has done wonders for Sushi Boat. Everything seems better from food to staff.

Unfortunately I will be writing a bad review for Sushi Boat.

I have been a frequent customer here since 2008, not only because it is relatively close to my home, but their sushi was of great quality in comparison to their cheap prices.

However, today has become my last day as a customer. With service and quality dropping below par compared to All-You-Can-Eat or other sushi restaurants I cannot justify my reasons to go here anymore.

Here is my reason why:

At the start of entering the restaurant, it wasn't too busy. As my friend and I (pointed towards) our seat, waiting for my utensils, and 15 minutes past waiting on water and tea, we finally got to look at the menu. After ordering a substantial amount of rolls, nigiri and deep-fried food we started to wait.

15 minutes passed with no one coming to check up on us, 25 minutes came and finally my udon-tempura (which is cheaper to get then ordering shrimp tempura on its own for two pieces), korokke (deep-fried potato) came in. But that was fine, it takes time to prepare and make deep-fried food, so I didn't think much of it.

However, my friend only ordered sushi, and we started seeing tables that came in after us receiving their sushi order, but you know what, we ordered a hefty amount so it was understandable.

After an hour of waiting, and talking to a waitress we finally got one plate of our order. She apologized for the delay, but we were still missing our sushi-boat special roll and inari nigiri's to arrive.

We decided to wait 15 more minutes before deciding to leave. When time was up, apparently the order wasn't even sent to the kitchen. We wasted our time waiting for literally nothing.

Didn't complain, just told them "Sorry, we couldn't wait anymore so we decided to just go to McDonalds instead". The waitress apologized and gave us a box of chocolates that is promoted on the boats, and we thought to ourselves, "mistakes happens, maybe there are new people in training for front of house, all good".

But when you look at the bottom of the apologize-gift chocolate box, it expired. Last month.. Come on..

Hopefully others see it was a good place to go, but honestly the rolls rice are watery and sticky. It crumbles the moment you grasp it with your chopsticks, which it shouldn't. Proper training would be my recommendation for kitchen and front of house staff. Cause I still remember seeing the kitchen staff from 2010, and if they are making sushi quality that a first time cook prepares after 12 years in the kitchen. I don't know what else I can say.

Thank you...

We are regular customers here. We visit a few times every month. The food is always pretty slow , other than the dishes on the belt . We come here for the convenience , and my child loves the sushi boat concept . However , our experience tonight is so terrible that we vow NEVER to come back again !

As soon as we sat down , we ordered two orders of tempuras and calamari . After half an hour , these still never showed up . We asked our waitress and she said she will check with the kitchen . After twenty more minutes , we asked her again . This time she said the calamari is coming . When we asked about the tempuras, she said, " I have no idea where it is ". When we inquired if she actually ordered them for us , she said she did , but disclosed that the tempuras were given to a different table . So we asked her if she reordered again for us and she said no !! We were so in shock , if our food was given to a different table , isn't it common sense to order us another order ? She just kept apologizing but kept saying they got given to a different table and for us just to have the calamari as at least that is on its way .

We told her to cancel the orders and asked for a manager . We were told there's no managers around and there's nothing we can do . So I guess we will review on social media !

When we went to pay , we shared our concerns with our cashier , and he basically told us at least she didn't charge you for the missing dishes . We commented that it is the expectation of ours that we won't be charged for our MISSING orders.

This is not the first time that our food is delayed or didn't get to us when we ordered from the special menu . However, they usually get our orders to the kitchen right away so we kept coming . No more. There are way better sushi places with lower prices and friendlier and faster service in town. It is disappointing because this place used...
