My wife was let go from her job and was coming back home from Nanaimo and was very upset about being let go. So I called our favourite restaurant and was greeted by the familiar voice of the manager Kristie and I explained the situation and requested our favourite table in the lounge, in front of the fireplace. I also asked if our favourite waitress, Carley would be working and could be our server. Kristie said that she would be starting at 5:30 and that she would have her be our server. In the meantime we sat down at our favourite table and we were greeted by Fennell, an assistant manager who took our drink and appetizer order and he stopped the table after he brought our drinks and appetizer. He was very sympathetic with the situation that my wife had just been through and he politely listened to the story and was very happy to spend a few minutes talking with us about different topics and sharing some of his experiences. He was very nice and friendly, the type of person that we have come to expect from the staff at the Keg. Carley came on shift moments after we were finished with our appetites. She also listened to the story of how we were there again because my wife had just lost her job. She has always had the time, or makes the time to talk to us and be a great listener and to share her own thoughts on this issue and just sharing how things in general are going for everyone these difficult times for everyone. As usual the food was delicious and we felt very happy with the entire experience and told Kristie, Fennell, and Carley , who is going to be leaving the Keg to pursue her career as a massage therapist after completing her degree and a practicum at a location close by and we will definitely use her services as a massage therapist especially with my wife having a “frozen shoulder”. So once again the team of Kristie, Carley and Fennell, who was the first person we met that evening and he lived up to the high standards that we have become accustomed to when we go to the Keg. So what was a very difficult day, especially for my wife and myself, as her husband was turned into a little bit of a upbeat evening due in large part to the friendly atmosphere that friendly staff who always deliver excellent customer service and a friendly attitude. So all 3 of these team members (Kristie, Carley and now Fennell) continue to deliver the exact same customer service experience that we have become accustomed to when we choose to eat at the Keg on 130th Ave SE Thanks again to all 3 of you who made a huge difference in our day that certainly made a bad experience in our day and turned it into a positive experience and let us forget about what happened prior to arriving at the Keg! 5 star service, friendly staff and fantastic food served by the staff! Thanks to all of you who made this evening a great experience despite the stress of the days earlier events! We will definitely be back to the Keg again soon and have no doubt that we will continue to be treated to excellent, 5 star ⭐️ service and...
Read moreSo it was an anniversary Monday February 24th. So my bf and I went to this Keg cause we wanted steaks. We decided to sit in the lounge part of the restaurant. It's a beautiful set up, fireplace. Yet I will explain why I rated it 4 ⭐. Food 4/5. We got mushroom Neptune. Delicious, shrooms overloaded. We both got keg classics. Mine was top loin with cauliflower mash and shrimp and scallops oscar. Very good, the only thing I didn't like, my plate was messy, wasn't wiped. Looked like they just threw my food on it and sent it out. I had a Caesar salad. Food was yummy. My bf got New York striploin with iceberg wedge and twice baked potato and shrimp and scallops oscar. His plate was nice and neat and clean. Looked very presentable. Delicious. We both tried each other's steak. Cooked very good. No complaints about the taste. So that's why 4 out of 5, is for presentation. Service 5/5. Irene was our server. Very nice and friendly. We liked her. She even gave us cheesecake on the house, cause of the anniversary. It was delicious too. Very happy with her service. Sweet girl. Atmosphere 2/5. Reason being is, there is a bar in the lounge and there were a few employees hanging out after work, having beers. Nothing wrong with that, even the manager was chatting with them from time to time in between running around, doing his job. But! When we got out dinner plates and started eating, one of the employees burped so loud, I was in disbelief. Treating their workplace as their house. For such a classy place, I wasn't expecting this kind of behavior. And to be honest, they were a bit loud at the bar when the manager wasn't around. Good thing we were both too hungry and it was too late to go anywhere else. Otherwise, we would probably leave. Burping loud with customers around isn't a good thing to do. Especially when they are trying to enjoy their anniversary dinner. So we, most likely, won't be coming back to this location. But if we do, not going to the lounge area. But I doubt we will come back. That incident left me with a yucky feeling. First impressions are important. It sucks, cause the service and...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant with high expectations given its reputation for quality steaks and meat dishes. Unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory.
To start, I was quite dismayed to find that the fries accompanying my steak were noticeably overcooked, displaying a deep orange hue and a rock-hard texture. Bringing this to the attention of the waiter, I was met with a baffling response, a look that seemed to question the validity of my concern rather than a prompt acknowledgment of the mistake.
I am deliberately not mentioning the name of the waiter involved in this incident. It is not my intention to cause personal repercussions or to jeopardize his standing with the chef or management. Rather, my goal is to highlight an area where quality control seemed to lapse, in the hopes of fostering improvements.
While they did offer to replace the dish, it seemed a hassle to wait for a new serving, especially when I was pressed for time and quite hungry. Moreover, I feel that in a restaurant of this caliber, such a clear and obvious mistake should never have occurred in the first place.
I understand that preparing a steak to the exact preference can sometimes be a challenging task, but determining the appropriate doneness of fries should certainly not be a complex matter. It was disheartening to see a renowned steakhouse falter in delivering a quality dining experience over something as simple as a side dish.
I genuinely dislike the necessity of leaving a negative review, as I am aware of the potential repercussions it might have on the business. Nevertheless, I feel that this time, it is justified. I sincerely hope that the restaurant takes this feedback constructively and makes the necessary improvements. I look forward to the possibility of revisiting in the future and changing this review to a more favorable rating, reflecting an experience that meets the standards one would expect from such a reputed...
