We usually always order takeout from this restaurant with little issue. However, it’s been a while. We decided to sit in at the restaurant this time for a change. I do not recommend. They were prioritizing take out orders. We ordered around 5:10pm and didn’t get food until 5:55pm AFTER I asked about when we could expect the food to be ready as waiting 40mins for a dinner for two and pad Thai. The response was they were busy. There were 3 tables with people in the whole restaurant and none had food. One table was there before us. I mentioned there have been a lot of take out orders going out. She replied that they have been waiting an hour and walked away from me. Ok, but we are sitting at the restaurant and I would think that would be the bonus of eating in, getting food more quick? If I had to wait take out times to get my dine in meal, why would I even bother? I’d order the take out…. It’s not like we are given any extra service by dinning in. We were given our drinks, no top ups with water, and left there to wait.

Read some other reviews and this seems to be the way it is the past few months. I’d urge the owner to change to a take out only facility or hire more staff for busier days. It’s obviously their business is mostly take out and those customers seem to be waiting a long time too. Not sure what’s going on here….

Order of our food brought out:

Spring rolls Rice/veggies Pad Thai Then another long wait as many more take out customers got taken of. ginger beef & sweet n sour pork.

Kids got full on the rice as they were hungry and my son ran out of water.

Brutal service. Avoid. Food is not worth it.

I NEVER leave reviews, but needed to put this out there so hopefully the owners can see and make some important changes if they want to keep dine in an option at...

03.19. After the work, my boyfriend took me to Chili Island Chinese & Thai Restaurant for dinner. It was our first time having a dinner at this restaurant. We had such great experience there. Chili Island Chinese & Tai Restaurant is located on 130 Ave SE Calgary, which is nearby Cora breakfast and Kiro Sushi. We have been to that area so many times. It was our first time walking into this place. Chili Island Chinese & Thai Restaurant is an Asian restaurant. It serves Chinese and Thai food.

Environment

We arrived the restaurant around 5 pm. It was not busy at all. Inside the restaurant was nice and clean. There were lots of space. We could very easy to find a seat.

Server

After we arrived the restaurant, the server led us to the table. Then, she brought the menu to us. The menu was very simple with images which are easier for us to order the food. The server was very nice and friendly. She brought the drink to us and begin to take the order.

Food

Since it was our first time, we would like to try lots of different dishes. After discussed with each other, we have decided to order Chinese Dish Combo Dinner for two. The dinner included Two spring rolls, ginger beef, sweet sour pork, fresh mixed vegetables and chicken fried rice. Also, we had Banana milkshake to share. The food came out the kitchen one by one. All the dishes were fresh and well cooked. They were all very tasty.

Prices

Because of the combo, the price of the food was OK. It was not expensive. Everything all together cost us 40 dollars. We still had lots of food take to go. Not bad.

In summary, we enjoyed our dinner at Chili Island Chinese & Thai Restaurant. We would like to go back there again sometimes...

Weird customer service practices. I was there recently and I witnessed a lady who I believe to be the owner or manager. She was belittling a food delivery driver who is there to pick up a food order for one of their customers. She was mocking her and humiliating her in front of the customers and other delivery drivers. I was quite shocked at her disgusting behavior. She was telling the delivery driver that she was there too early and that other delivery drivers come on time which I thought was strange because getting there early is better than getting there late. She went on to humiliate her on her for not knowing how to accept a double food order or something and another driver was helping her he laughed at her and called her stupid that she doesn't know how to use the app. If that's the way they treat food delivery drivers I wonder how they will treat other staff members. Anyways the food that I had was not bad it wasn't the greatest I've had much better at their Chinese restaurants. After paying she gave me dirty eyes because I didn't leave them a big enough tip which I felt that I did. My food order came to $35 and I gave an $8 tip I thought that was more than enough. But she didn't say thank you or anything she just clutched the bill and walked away. They need to work on their their customer service skills. It was not a surprise to me to see how empty the place was. I think they probably rely on takeout and have lost their communication skills and how to run a restaurant in...

Does this look good to you? Not typically one to leave a review but 🤮 a total disappointment. Never attempted coconut soup like this before and never will again. We also attempted a second shareable after the first being a choke hazard, salt & pepper squid (nasty). Tried being nice and agreed to try the Thai chicken bites as per waitress suggestion but, not any better. No taste, lots of deep fried batter served with a warm coloured water, dipping sauce. Not a good experience at all. Both of us felt sick after. Not sure if it was the actual food or … if it was the gloves the waitress wore while cleaning the restaurant and then also serving us our food while wearing those same gloves as she touched the food (yes she did that) and told us how juicy and good it was while she grabbed a piece of chicken off our plate and broke it apart in front of us telling us “everyone orders it because it’s so good” or … if was the look of it all that made us sick. Just simply gross! Never again.

We ordered the salt and pepper squid pork dumplings Shanghai noodles and vegetables and sweet-and-sour pork dumplings were literally pure dough with a tiny dollop of meat inside and the dough itself was so gross ? Just these giant hunks of some kind of bread dough almost? The squid was flavourless and had some kind of tendon still in the middle that was like a pc of rubber glove i Literally had to break open ever pc and pull this rubber thing out of the centre? Wth ? So gross and everything else was bland and very disappointing with what you would expect to have flavour is purely flavourless I had to add so much salt and pepper and soy sauce to it for it to even taste remotely like Chinese food I was actually embarrassed to have served this to my guests and less you enjoy paying for a huge hunk of dough go somewhere else

I give 5 stars because the food is good and the service is diligent and friendly. But the ambiance of the place is not that pleasant. Maybe that's why there's rarely people dining in. So I'd recommend just get a take out. We love the calamari here, crispy (obviously not as much if it's for take out) and with the right amount of heat. I've tried more the Chinese dishes than the Thai ones, but everything is always flavourful and cooked just before bringing it to you. Portions are huge, you easily have plenty of letfovers for future meals. It's definitely our go to place to satisfy our cravings for Chinese take out in the area.
