I tried Wayback this evening as it's close to where I live, and it would be great for me to have a reliable burger joint nearby - so I was very much hoping it would deliver.
I had the "Classic" - the standard deluxe double cheeseburger - and the "Rodeo" - a southwest style barbecue burger with onion ring. I asked for both to be made with standard toppings. Both burgers are exactly in line with what you would expect - a solid portion of good, freshly grilled beef on a quality bun that held together well, and in the case of the "Classic", fresh and tasty trimmings. I'd suggest asking for them to go a bit lighter on the sauce on the "Classic" - there was a bit too much mustard on mine. A suggestion I would make is to add some knock-off animal style fries to the menu, as many other joints have started to do, as I suspect they'd be a hit.
My verdict is that it's a very solid option in its category. Wayback falls into line with the upscale burger takeout chain tier - a clear step above fast food spots, but not competing with gourmet burgers (e.g. in the Northwest, Notable or Dairy Lane Cafe), which is fine, as those are more expensive alternatives. The price is appropriate for what you get, and for me, it rates favourably compared to competitors like Fatburger or Five Guys. I've rated it 5 stars as I think this place is being unfairly review-bombed - it deserves to be more like a 4.3 or 4.4 overall, and is currently sitting at a 4.1. At this point, I don't think the product is quite at a level to make me a devoted regular, but I'm sure I'll be back.
Last thing - some people have complained about wait times. I was there at 6pm on a Tuesday, and while there wasn't a big crowd, it looked like they were quite busy dealing with delivery orders for the apps. My order was placed at 6:09 p.m. and handed to me at 6:22, which isn't lightning fast, but in my opinion is perfectly reasonable - this isn't meant to be fast food.
EDIT: I am unfortunately forced to reduce this review by a bit. The service has gotten worse and wait times are getting out of hand. The order I just placed was supposed to take 20 minutes, which is already a long time. Now I'm told it'll be another ten. There's nothing I can do about it but simply put, if you're coming here, order way,...
Read moreFirst time we've been Wayback Burger, unfortunately it was the worst of the worst.
The clerk for ordering was unfriendly and we barely heard the clerk's voice when we ordered, maybe overworked or something but we didn't get enough information for food. I ordered a cheesy burger and had no idea if the burger had no sauce, it was our first trial in WaybackBurger, it would have been much better if the employee asked me even only just Sauce?Something like this. In addition, we had two burgers, the BURGERS WERE THE WORST BURGER WE HAVE EVER TRIED.
As I added the picture of the cheesy burger, we all can see the burger which is made effortlessly. The cheese is even unmelted yet..! We were shocked when we saw the state. Why can't you just serve a burger with properly melted cheese? You guys weren't busy at all at the time. Burn and patties were super, super dry.
We ordered a cheesy burger, rodeo burger and chilli cheese fries. We tried so hard to finish so as not to waste food but we couldn't handle the taste.
I'm deeply sad/angry with the way they serve food, take orders and manage the restaurant. Feels like it's a tragedy to sell that kind of food to people and make profit. People deserve to feel the value of spending money and time. I was full of unhappiness after having your food.
You guys put the sign outside the windows that says "Quality". But where is the quality though..?
Plus, the floor under the table we sat was a total mess by food.
We were excited to try every time we passed by Wayback burger but now there is only disappointment and shock.
I'm sorry but I really had to leave this review, you might get upset from this one but I think it's important to let people know and hopefully it will help you to realize bad things and correct them to grow your...
Read moreWe went to check out WAYBACK burgers in the new Legacy location today. I have to say we thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy parking, accessibility friendly. We were greeted upon entry and asked if we needed help with navigating the menu or recommendations. My husband ordered the Classic burger with their sea salt chips, I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger with the tater tots. The food was made fresh, brought to our table with a genuine smile. I was so happy with how not greasy the food was. The burger was nicely warm and the vegetables fresh, crisp and cool. The bun was a good size and held everything nicely right to the last bite. My husband was a big fan of the pickles, he is a pickle guy, so if you are too then you won't be disappointed. Their chips were perfectly crispy, with the right amount of salt. The tater tots were very good, crispy and a generous amount. The atmosphere was cheery, clean and roomy. I was happy to see a counter bar area with lower seating, making it more comfortable than having dangling feet. The bathrooms were very clean. We decided to try a milk shake when we were leaving. We just got a classic chocolate shake to share and it was delicious. Creamy and thick but drinkable. Bonus points for their straws being made of biodegradable plastic and not having to deal with soggy paper. The whip on top of the shake stayed right to the bottom and tasted like marshmallow without being overly sweet. We were just shy of $50 for all the food and drinks but considering they don't ask for tips I think this was a fair price for the food quality we got at a burger place. All in all we really liked it and will definitely be going back. Like they say when leaving, we'll see you on the...
