*March Update: Bun Bo Hue: Broth is exceptional. It's spicy but not overwhelming. The heat has a strong entrance, then levels to a well balanced spiciness throughout the meal. The flavor is a high complexity mixture of beef bone stock, spicy chili oil, herb, lemongrass and more than I can describe but a sure 11/10 broth. Strap yourself on the chair because this broth sends my mind back to Vietnam instantly.
Meats: Good portion of meats + pork paste and 2 pieces of crab&pork paste. There are different cuts so the texture of every bites are different from each others. 9.75/10 for missing pork hock. It's understandable because not so many people, even Vietnamese, enjoy pork hock. It could've been better if it's optional or they can charge extra for such delicacy.
Water: Yes water, the drink you got served once you have a seat. Ask for cold ice tea and thanks me later.
Overall: 9.9/10, they redeemed themselves. Worth every penny, tipped 25% . New photos of Bun Bo Hue update.
Feb Update: The broth is still good, but everything else has gone down in quality. Meats are sliced thinner, special toppings are removed, special menu is gone. They could've increased the price but keep the quality, however, they went the path of every others Viet restaurants. Sad to see this happen.
Truly authentic Vietnamese cuisine is served here. Right now, menu is slightly smaller than others but I believe they're introducing new items to the menu once a month. The 2 new "Bun Bo Hue" and "Bun Rieu Cua" are so good and match exactly what you can find in Vietnam. In fact, I finished the last drop of them. EMPTY BOWL!!!! No other Viets restaurant in KW-C area can come close to their food quality...
Read moreThis is a Cambridge 5. I usually do not like any restaurants in Cambridge, especially as an Asian... the Asian restaurants tend to suck in Cambridge and normally try to cster for a Western palate. This is not the case here. Whats a Cambridge 5 you ask? It means you will be pleasantly surprised how good it is, but if youre visiting from GTA then you wont be impressed but it will still be good!
We have been here twice, the Pho beef is super tender. Their skillets arent something you see in most Vietnamese places and they are very tasty. All skillets come with crispy banh mi baguette. So fluffly, soft on inside and nice crunch on outside.
Make sure you get the iced tea. Its amazing. Tastes like Thai iced tea without any of the sugar or creamer and its... FREE.
This is a top restaurant for Cambridge. Some small critique: the pho soup could be hotter. It has a hard time making sure the raw beef cooks thoroughly. The Pho broth is very good but probably not the best youve had in your life if you eat in the GTA. Menu is small and focused so if you want lots of variety this isnt your traditional pho restaurant with 100 different menu items.
Service is really good for a Viet place. We had every server come and ask us how the food was... did not expect this from an Asian restaurant. Lots of local Viet people eat here too, so if that tells you anything it should.
This is a definite...
Read moreThe worst banh mi we ever tried. The price is very high for a banh mi, at first when I see the price I wanted to walk away but think let's try it maybe the quality worth the price, but it turns out every disappointing. They dont even have a sauce for the banh mi, the bun was baked every hard like a rock. I had "banh mi nem nuong" and nem nuong wasn't grilled at all and tasted really awful, I can't even finish it. We come from Hamilton and to be honest, Hamilton banh mi is 10 times better than them and the price is just half. With $14 you can have 2 banh mi with full of sauce and topping and fresh meat. My husband is white Canadian, he has tried banh mi from many kinds of place from Toronto, Missisuauga, Burlington, Hamilton, Niagara Fall,.. and even in Vietnam. and he said this is the worst banh mi ever. Cambridge people please try banh mi from the other places and you will know how a Vietnamese banh mi tastes like, it is totally not like this. It is so embarrassing that a famous food around the world to be introduced so terrible like this. The owner you should go back to VN and spend time to learn a course of how to make a Vietnamese banh mi properly before introducing it to Canadian. You are ruining Vietnamese...
