To be fair, I think I've been spoiled by Vancouver gyro joints. Because this was such a disappointing experience. I went in for the very first time today excited to see what their falafel menu was like. I got a falafel plate and subbed tabouli in for their standard salad ($2 extra). Was weird they let me sub a salad but when I asked for tabouli salad on my falafel wrap they said they couldn't do that. Anyways the atmosphere was weird and somber and the clerk didn't have a shred of human emotion when interacting with me.
The hummus tasted sour not like in a yummy lemon way but in a this is probably expired way. Cucumber garnish was dried and had been sitting out for a while. And the white garlic sauce tasted super off too (inedible). And the falafel barely had any spices in it and wasn't fried the whole way thru.
I'm glad campbell river has middle eastern food because I love love love middle eastern food but it's sad to see that they have to cut costs so much that it reflects poorly on the quality of their food.
I'm not one to write reviews and I hate being a Karen but I regret the $20 I spent here for...
Read moreWent in all the way from Courtenay hoping to cure my shawarma fix after missing this cuisine after moving from Vancouver a few years ago. Sadly, I’m still waiting. I got a large chicken wrap ($15) and while tasty, was a small portion size for the price and lacked freshness and vegetables. As well, the chicken wasn’t from the rotisserie spit as expected although it was cooked fresh to order on the grill.
It is my preference, but I prefer the style of Shawarma wrap that is not toasted, and which you are able to add items like lettuce, pickled turnips, etc into your wrap. I was disappointed to see the veg hidden away and my ask for lettuce denied. As well, I learned the plates are simply the aforementioned wrap with salad and hummus, not shaved meat on rice like one might imagine a chicken shawarma plate to be.
Overall, good home-cooked food but just not the restaurant I was hoping for. My quest for a good chicken shawarma wrap on the...
Read moreI love shawerma. Sadly, there is no good shawerma in BC, nothing comes remotely close to authentic shawerma like back home I have no idea why. HOWEVER, this is the only place I’ve ever tried that was very close. While every other supposedly middle eastern restaurant I’ve tried in BC tastes nothing like middle eastern food, this one actually tastes like an average ok place back home, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for the past 12 years I’ve been in BC. The garlic sauce is spot on and meat tastes closest to authentic. The way it’s made isn’t exactly authentic though because we usually only put fries and pickles in chicken shawerma and sometimes pomegranate molasses based on preference.. but I won’t complain because I don’t think I’ll find a better place in BC and it’s good enough. Also, Tabbouleh here is best I’ve...
