MVP Pub and Family Restaurant — Restaurant in Campbell River

Been to this place MANY times, normally a phenomenal experience. Staff is friendly, great value for food & drinks.

I had the absolute worst experience when my wife and I went on the evening of Feb 3. The pub was busy, however there was a whole section empty on facing the windows, with two large parties facing the beer fridge & distillery equipment.

We asked the petite, red headed waitress if we could sit in the empty section that was a little quieter near the windows. There was 2 of us, we’re not there to get rowdy, just to have a quick drink and some appetizers.

She responded by telling us we HAD to sit in her section, where she took 10 minutes separating a table where there were two large parties enjoying their evening beside us. We were then ignored for 25 minutes (while said waitress did her thing with the large parties) while the other waitress (black hair, quite pleasant) looked visibly frustrated at the situation.

Once we realized what happened, we got up and left without ordering any food and just had water.

If there is internal politics between the staff, please do not take it out on the customers. This place was one of our favourite spots in town, we will be quite reluctant to come back...

Food is absolutely excellent and huge portions. Decent price. I’ve had MVP Burger, beef dip and chicken parm sando all were absolutely delicious. The side green salad is beautiful… not greens from a bag. Now service… walk in , you have to wait to be seated… nobody came so we seated ourselves on the pub side. There was only one other table with customers. The food took a long time but I’m willing to wait for quality goodness. Waitress never came back to check on drinks or refill coffee. When we were finished our meals, the plates sat for a long time. We wanted the bill so we could leave. One of the staff was standing chatting up a customer at the bar. She was 4 feet away from us and totally ignored us. Sure chat to your patrons but do your bloody job first. I will say that the girls were very nice and friendly tho. Ordered 2 appys at 5:45, they didn’t arrive at our table until 6:45. My partner ordered a beer (on tap) and it took 1/2 hr to get to our table. The waitess was more concerned about serving her regulars and friends. Then when our food came out, she brought out 3 of the 4 meals….. and it took 30 minutes to get the 4th. The table behind us - filled with her regulars / friends were served their drink rounds on 20 minute intervals. They never went without. At one point my partner went to the bar to get his beer, as she was so busy laughing with her regulars at the bar to bring him his beer that he had ordered 20 minutes before. She was rude and said “it’s on its way” It took us 3.5 hrs to have appys and meals. She asked us at the end if we wanted more drinks. My son in law said no. The she brought him one anyway. I know that they are short staffed, but when you can blatantly see others getting better service…..there...
