Dick's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Campbell River

Living in Calgary, I'm deprived of great seafood, especially great fish and chips (one of my all time favourite foods) So when I booked my trip to the Island, getting the best seafood fish and chips was my TOP priority. This place did not disappoint!! I got the two piece cod and fried scallops, and I was in HEAVEN. You can tell their fish and shellfish are fresh as can be, and the crisp on the batters is absolutely perfect. It brought me back to my trip to UK I took as a teenager, and I'd honestly put these fish and chips up against the best chippy in the UK! The service is also extremely friendly. You feel more like you've been invited into someone's home for a nice home cooked meal rather than a restaurant! If you're coming to the Island, even if you're mainly visiting Victoria, Tofino, or Nanaimo, I would strongly recommend going out of your way to take the trip up to Campbell River to grab a meal...

I loved this place before they moved and have been very disappointed the last two times I visited... the last time being a week ago! Both times the fish was too greasy ... maybe the oil was old or not hot enough? Everything in the restaurant had a coating on grease on it ! The tables, the condiment containers etc There were many many flies buzzing around and it was very warm in there with the only ventilation being wide open doors ...hence the flies! My suggestion is get a proper air condtioning/ventilation system in there ASAP! Also maybe have a better cleaning schedule ... a place with that much grease needs it! This place is a gold mine and with a little effort and money returned to the business I’m sure it could be back up to the great place it used to be Dick! P.S. Went there about a month ago and we waited in line for about 20-30 minutes. Had someone come and cut in line with their friends and order $100+ worth of food. Not the restaurant's fault but it did add onto the experience.

We waited for our food after we ordered for another 20-30 minutes (Though we did have a party of 5). You'd think with these wait times and prices you'd get some sort of service but it's just a grab-and-eat place. I'm not a seafood fan so I had the chicken burger it's was pretty good, nothing over the top, but they give you ridiculous amount of fries. I ate about a quarter of them and the rest of my party ate about 3/4 of theirs if not less. So lots of wasted food.

The atmosphere is really nice though, there's a floating dock you can eat on or you can eat inside if there's seating. Nice view...
