I ordered a steak sandwich and it came with only one slice of bread which I wasn't expecting considering it's a "sandwich" and is on the "handhelds" menu (you can't hold steak and gravy on one slice of bread). I asked the server for an extra slice of bread to complete the sandwich and she brought me one. When she brought the bill, the extra bread was listed as an add-on for $3 (pretty expensive). I challenged this on the grounds I had ordered a sandwich and the server was quick to confidently and rudely tell me "it says it's open top on the menu" so I trusted her and decided to pay the full price and tip. Then I opened the menu and guess what? It DOES NOT say "open top" anywhere. I challenged the server on this and she told me "it used to say it, we changed the menu today". She did not apologise and ran off to "get the manager" who never showed up. I did not appreciate this at all! What does "sandwich" mean to you? $3 for a slice of bread?

Great spot! Swell location, RealReal great service, fabulous food. It's my local. Have done the research in Campbell River and this is it. Firmly recommended. For stars because there's always room for improvement.

I enjoyed our visit here. The ambiance was great. Though they did have some TVs playing sports, they weren't in your face like many other pubs. The place was packed when we got there, due to Xmas parties but it wasn't too loud. The host was very accommodating. Because of the parties there weren't any tables when we got there. After sitting at the bar, he brought us to a table that had opened up. By the time the rest of our group arrived he had a larger table ready for us. The food was pretty good for pub food. They did have to bring my wife's nachos out 3 times due to kitchen mistakes. When she got it the way she ordered it, it was pretty good. They didn't charge us for it, so kudos. Where they really stood out was the live entertainment. A jazz duo named Easy Street was playing. They were excellent and had a great repertoire from the 60s to today. We have already decided to go back next time they play.

We have patronized the Riptide an average of twice every month over the past few years. We have always found the staff to be very friendly, the service and the food very good. But this all changed Saturday night. On Thursday we made a reservation for four at 6:00pm Saturday(Oct 14th) We arrived at 5:55pm and were met (not greeted) at the door by a lady who only needs a pointy black hat and a broom to be in costume for Halloween. She asked how many of us there were, we replied there was four of us and that we had made a reservation, she looked at us like we were nuts, looked around the room and then walked away to the far side of the room by the ocean side entrance, stopped and hollered back at us, "Come on in." We proceeded over to where she was and she pointed out a table in front of the entrance and the bar. We said that we would prefer not to sit there as it is a high traffic area and drafty. So she took us over by the main entrance to a table for four, which is just as drafty but has less traffic. We sat down, she left. Within five minutes our waitress came and asked if we would like drinks, we ordered drinks and our drinks were served within five minutes. We looked over the menus, chatted and sipped our drinks. 20 minutes later we finally caught our waiters attention and asked if we could order our food, she said she would be right back. A couple minutes later she came back and we placed our orders and we asked her to put my wife's and my order on one bill and the other couple with us requested separate bills. We sat and waited another 25 minutes before our orders were brought to the table, my food was cool, not hot as usual, my wife's was not prepared as it usually is. (We order the same thing all the time.) We finished our meals, sat a while longer waiting for our bills. When the bills came, my wife's and mine were on separate bills, the couple with us bills were combined, exactly opposite of what we had asked. Don't know if we will ever go back or not, as there are many other good restaurants in Campbell River. The staff at the Riptide have to remember that their salary may be given to them by the owners but ultimately it is paid by the customers they serve. NOT A...

I've had better food for two thirds of the price at White Spot. It wasn't inedible, but the price and the aesthetic promised far better than what we got. DO NOT BOTHER with the club sandwich. I don't understand the fascination up here with putting shellfish IN THE SHELL in creamy sauces with pasta, you just end up with surprise shell grinding between your teeth. And that was just the food. The atmosphere was... something else. There were 3 PoC in the entire filled to capacity restaurant, including staff, and all three were at our table. We felt very conspicuous and rushed, as if the people around us were trying to get us to leave without outright saying it. We couldn't have a conversation for longer than 4 sentences before 2 tables were shouting over us. The staff were very split along gender roles. Young women as waitresses only, no waiters, all other staff were older men. The waitresses seemed far more stressed than I would expect, even for a dinner rush on a busy night. We got no table check, no drink refill offers, and we didn't realise we had a specific waitress until we asked for the bill. One of the girls CLEARLY didn't want to be there, dropping the one plate of food she was carrying on the table with a thud before scowling off without a word. I didn't get the impression it was their fault though, there was a very uncomfortable vibe permeating the whole place. We...

We went for dinner to celebrate my mothers birthday, on Saturday night. First the patio was very busy, which was fine except there was 1 server on and no runner to assist her. We ordered drinks (it took a while to get ) then we ordered an appetizer to start. We then ordered dinner. Dinner arrived, we did NOT receive our appetizer. The waitress told us we should have let her know that she forgot????? Then we started to eat our dinner, the Vegetables were cold on all of our plates. The cut of Steak was really poor quality, mine was ok but my Fathers was not edible. I had ordered hot sauce, someone came out with it after I decided I had had enough dinner. We were never offered more water or drinks. When we did finish dinner the waitress never looked at us we had to flag her down after 10 mins where I did let her know our dinners were horrible. She did comp my one meal (though it should have been two comped). She then proceeded to tell us not to order dessert because it took her 20 mins to obtain the 3 desserts on the table behind us. TERRIBLE SERVICE may be due lack of staff but also unhappy, miserable staff, TERRIBLE FOOD. We were then told by another CR resident they haven't had a good meal in months there.

I would find another restaurant and this was a disappointment for a...
